Bachelor of Science Courses in Nursing

SYLLABUS – B.Sc (N) – 4 Years Course

As prescribed by Indian Nursing Council and Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (annual pattern)

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Candidate for admission to the first year B.Sc (N) degree course should have passed the HSC (Academic) examination conducted by the state board or university or any other equivalent with the minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Biology, Physics & Chemistry with English as a subject of study (40% marks for SC/ST/OBC).
  2. For vocational stream 50% marks aggregate in Physics, Foundation Sciences or Chemistry, Nursing and English.
  3. Senior school certificate +2 pre degree examination (10+2)
  4. DMLT is not a nursing programme and hence students are not eligible for admission in BSc (N) programme.
  5. Age of 17 years as on 31st, December , with an upper age limit of 25 yrs.
  6. Relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC

FACULTY

The best of the most experienced senior faculty in the grade of Professors and Asst. Professors in Nursing with M.Sc (N) qualification and Clinical Instructors who are really helping them to practice the theoretical knowledge in the clinical settings. More emphasis will be made on bedside training rather than theoretical classes. Apart from this, Professors and Asst Professors from clinical and Para-clinical departments arc handling classes for B.Sc (N) students.

BSc-Syllabus

Post Basic B.Sc (N) – 2 Years course

ELIGIBILITY

  • Passed the Higher Secondary or Senior Secondary or Intermediate or 10+2 or an equivalent examination recognized by the university for this purpose. Those who have done 10+1 / PUC on or before 1986, will be eligible for admission;
  • Obtained a certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery registered as Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with the State Nursing Council. A male trained before the implementation of the new integrated course registered as an A grade nurse with State Nursing Council, shall produce evidence of training approved by Indian Nursing Council for a similar duration in lieu of midwifery
  • Worked for a minimum period of One Year as a Nurse in a hospital / institution or a full-time Public Health Nurse for one year after obtaining the above mentioned diploma.
  • Candidates shall be medically fit.

Bachelor of Science Courses in Allied Health Sciences

B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology

The course teaches the different types of clinical laboratory tests that are available for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. A qualified Medical Laboratory Technologists can find opportunities in India/abroad to work in Research laboratories/Biomedical/Genetic units/ health laboratories. One can join as Tutor in Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and as a quality manager in diagnostic laboratories. One can do post-graduation and further can do research to contribute to the health care delivery system.

B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology

Operation theatre technologists have immense scope for working as assistants to surgeons in operation theatres of medical college hospitals, corporate and government hospitals in India and abroad. They are responsible for preparation of operation theatre before and after surgery. They also assist in procedures like endoscopic surgery, digital angiogram, and lithotripsy. Future scope is for doing post-graduation and gets employed as Tutor in Allied Health Sciences institutions offering similar courses.

B.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology

The course and training is designed to acquire skills and knowledge to assist Anaesthesiologists during anaesthetic procedures, intubation procedures, loading of anaesthesia drug to patients with proper dilution, assisting for anaesthesia procedures outside the operation theatre procedures such as CT, MRI, Endoscopy, digital angiogram etc. further scope is for doing post-graduation and can be employed in corporate and government hospitals both in India and abroad are widely available.

B.Sc. Dialysis Technology

Graduates of dialysis technology are trained to evaluate, operate and maintain dialysis machines. They prepare the patients and monitor dialysis treatment under the expert guidance of qualified medical professionals. The growing awareness of renal diseases and dialysis facilities available in all hospitals has resulted in demand of trained renal dialysis technologists. The course is designed to deal with renal replacement therapy-Haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, Haemo-perfusion. Dialysis technologists get opportunities in hospitals and teaching institutions. They can pursue for master’s degree and can be employed in India and abroad.

B.Sc. Cardiac Care Technology

The graduates of Cardiac Care Technology form an integral part of the health care system. They are generally employed in advanced health care cardiac centre hospitals. They assist in determining underlying cardiac problems. They develop skills to perform non-invasive cardiac tests like ECG, exercise stress test, Holter and ambulatory BP monitoring. The training programs make one competent to handle equipment, technologies and tools in cardiac catheterization and capable of doing regular maintenance of the equipment. They can do further specialization in cardiac catheterization and intervention, vascular technology, sonography.

B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology

Medical Imaging Technologists function as members of the health care team, performing diagnostic imaging procedures in hospitals, clinics, and other health care setting. The course is designed to develop highly skilled radiographers qualified to provide patient care services in interventional procedures, computed tomography, ultrasonography, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging. A career in Medical Imaging Technology offers a promising future, job stability and a good salary. Graduates have the eligibility to pursue Master’s & can also specialise in any of the imaging modalities. The graduates can work as an application specialist in medical imaging equipment companies. They have opportunity in teaching field in various educational institutions worldwide. They can further pursue research activities in Medical Imaging Technology.

B.Sc. Optometry

Optometry deals with vision which involves examining, diagnosing, managing and treating the diseases of eyes. It also deals with the working of eye equipment, to give corrective lenses and speciality clinics for Low vision, contact lens and binocular vision. An Optometrist is an independent primary health care provider who is specialized in eye care and visual health. Graduates can be employed in hospitals and clinics to assist ophthalmologist and multinational eye care companies. Self-employment is guaranteed by setting up optical shops, starting own speciality clinic for contact lenses, computer vision. They get employment in manufacturing unit of lenses, ophthalmic instruments. They can pursue Post graduation and fellowship / doctoral programs and take up teaching optometry as a career.

B.Sc. Clinical Nutrition

The course is designed to have in-depth knowledge of nutrition and food science. A nutritionist provides guidance on matters of food habits and nutritional impacts on health. Job opportunities as nutritionist/dietician are in demand in government and private health care sectors, NGOs, teaching and education sectors also. One can go on to earn certification or licensure to practice as nutritionists or dieticians. Thy can conduct or take part in research activities after the completion of post-graduation.

B.Sc. Clinical Research 

A graduation in clinical research provides scientific analysis of the impact, risks and benefits of medicines and or a medicinal product. The trials are performed at different stages and after launch of the products supervision has to be maintained to scrutinize the safety and monitor the side effects if any. India is involved in clinical research for the past so many years and is now concentrating for focus in this area. The multicore pharmaceutical industry which is one of the fastest growing sectors in Indian economy has high demand for qualified professionals. B.Sc. Physician Assistant

B.Sc. Physician Assistant course provides a deep insight into the counsel on preventive health care, diagnose and treat illness, order and interpret test, assist in surgery, etc. The course is also beneficial for further studies such as M.Sc., M.Phil. & Ph.D., etc. as it provides a good basic knowledge for the higher studies. B.Sc. Blood Bank Technology

A graduate of this course specializes in the collection and analysis of blood samples. They screen the blood donors and classify the blood type. The collect the blood, stores and prepare it for blood transfusion. The blood bank technicians are employed in government/corporate hospitals.

Bachelor of Medical Record Science (BMRS)

Maintenance of good health information system needs understanding of contents of patient’s records, collection of data, application of statistical technique, understanding of medical legal aspects and statuary laws related to health care. The course is designed for the systemic documentation of a single patient’s medical history and care across time. They are generally employed in large hospitals and clinics.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT)

A career in physiotherapy can lead to a variety of interesting and challenging jobs in the health care system. Physiotherapist are required in each department of a hospital, be it ICU or geriatrics. They can choose to work independently or be a part of multidisciplinary medical team. Physiotherapy career can rise to a variety of challenging and interesting jobs in the health care system. They can specialize in the fields like cardiovascular & respiratory geriatrics, orthopaedics, sports medicine, neurology, obstetrics and community rehabilitation. They can get involved in research career and do doctoral programs to get high level of skill, knowledge and competency. They can be employed as physiotherapist and opportunities to grow as management positions, teaching faculty.
