Pledge against Single use of plastic

Based on the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on the subject, Elimination of Single-Use Plastic, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Deemed to be University, Pondicherry in collaboration with SBV Women’s Cell had organized administration of pledge against single-use plastic for its faculty, staff, students and administrators.

Earlier in the day (3rd July 2021), administrators and the staff of the university block including the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Dean Research, Dean of Faculty, Director – Accreditations, General Manager took the pledge and the same was administered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Subhash Chandra Parija. In his address, Prof. Parija stressed the importance of the ban on single-use plastic. He stressed the havoc created by plastic in the life of all species. He requested the faculty, staff, and students of SBV to come together in the fight against the use of plastic. He insisted that SBV should take the lead in creating awareness among the general public against the use of plastic.

Similar to it the pledge-taking event was organized at all the constituent teaching units of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The Dean / Principal of the respective teaching units administered the pledge to their faculty, staff, and students.

Sr. Personnel Manager administered the pledge for all the non-teaching staff of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth including the security staff. In all the venues, the awareness of avoiding plastic carry bags and carrying our own eco-bags was stressed.

Awareness posters on the ‘Ban on single-use plastic’ and ‘Do not litter’ were erected in all vantage points of the University.

India’s Union Government has issued a draft nationwide proposal to mandate certain requirements for plastic carry-out bags and to ban certain single-use plastics beginning in 2022.
