Research Activities

Oral healthcare for special need population which includes physically challenged, mentally challenged, socially handicapped children, transgenders, tribal population, low -birth weight children.

Dr.Vikneshan et.al published an original article on “Tobacco usage among tribal population of Nilgris, Tamil Nadu – a cross-sectional study” in Tobacco Induced Diseases with an impact factor of  2.6.

Funded projects (Government, Non – Government and University)

The department has the following funded projects completed and ongoing:

Completed:

ICMR STS project by our undergraduate Aimee Susan Vargese on Dietary habits and food addiction among users of online food delivery apps- A Cross-sectional survey.

Ongoing:

ICMR funded project by our postgraduate Dr.K.Kasthuripriya for dissertation on Comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of oral health education methods on oral health knowledge, attitude, practice and oral hygiene status among 12-15 years old socially handicapped children- A randomized controlled trial.

Publication with high impact factor

Dr.Vikneshan et.al published an original article on “Algal biomass as a source for novel oral nano-antimicrobial agent” in Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences with an impact factor of 4.2.

Dr.Shivashankar et.al published an original article on “Comparing the use of tobacco among fishermen and non-fishermen population of Pondicherry, India” in Tobacco Induced Diseases with the impact factor of  2.6 and the study entitled “Does increase in tax decrease consumption of tobacco? in “Tobacco Induced Diseases with the impact factor of 2.6.

Dr.Divvi Anusha et.al published the study entitled “Tobacco: A killer in loose among tobacco factory workers” in Tobacco Induced Diseases with the impact factor of  2.6.

The department has 8 number of patents and 22 number of copyrights to its credit.

    • Patents includes Universal Back resting device, Hybrid Booster Device for Ultrasonic Scaler which is used for our treatment camps. Oral cleansing agents containing Selenium particles derived from Ulva spp (Marine Algae), Comprehensive Self Oral-health Assessment Kit (CSOAK), Oral antibacterial agents containing Selenium and Zinc nanoparticles synthesized from Triphala (Herbal concentrate), Oral cleansing agents containing silver nano particles derived from Ulva spp (Marine Algae), Swimmers Mouth Guard, Infectious disease protection kit/ Backpack PPE.

Consultancy

Department is providing consultancy to SAI SUPREME MEDIFIRM under technology transfer for the development of low-cost dental equipment.

Research collaboration

Our department collaborated with other institutes like Saveetha dental college for the following project entitled” Effectiveness of marine algal extracts on oral micro-organisms:  An in-vitro study”

Our department collaborated with allied health sciences for the following two projects entitled Comparing the effectiveness of Alpinia officinale extract and 0.12% chlorhexidine mouth rinses on saliva, plaque and gingival health- A Randomized controlled trial and Application of the theory of planned behaviour on junk food consumption through online app among the college students of Pondicherry -A Cross-sectional study

Our department collaborated with music therapy for the following project entitled “Comparing the effectiveness of musical drama and musical listening over tell-show-do technique on the level of dental anxiety among 12-15 years old school children in Pondicherry-A Randomized controlled trial”
