NSS unit of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Science conducted a series of programs for a
week from 11 th September to 19 th September 2017 under the guidance of Dr. Ramu, NSS
Program Officer. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Sathyanarayanan, Dental
Superintendent, Prof. Saravana Kumar, Principal, IGIDS, Prof. Senthil, HOD, Department of
Public Health Dentistry and Dr. Ramu, NSS officer, on 11 th September 2017. The volunteers
actively cleaned the campus premises during the clean campus event between 9.30 AM to
1.00 PM.
On 12 th September 2017, the NSS unit of IGIDS joined hands with the Bharath Green
Foundation, Bahour, for sowing 5000 palm seeds. This event was inaugurated by the Mr.
Dhanavel, Bahour MLA.
On 13 th September 2017, the students of IGIDS participated in an essay competition in Tamil
and English on the topic “Innovative ways of spreading the message of hygiene”. The
competition was judged by Mr. N. Arivoli, Rtd. Principal, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary
School, Manaloorpet, Tamil Nadu and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, Rtd. Teacher, Vice Principal, Dr.
Ambedkhar Govt. Higher Secondary School, Pulichapazham, Tamil Nadu.
An elocution competition on the topic “Health and hygiene is the real wealth” was conducted
on 14 th September 2017. The competition was judged by Dr. Uma, Vice Principal, Allied
Health Sciences and Dr. Janani, Senior lecturer, Department of Periodontics, IGIDS.
On 15 th September 2017, ‘The Clean hostel day’ was conducted and the prizes were awarded
for the students with neat and tidy rooms. This event was judged by Dr. Bindu, Reader,
Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Mrs. Asmath, Chief Hostel
Warden. Dr. Prasanna and Dr. Muneer, Tutors from IGIDS, judged Boys hostel.
On 16 th September 2017 ‘clean campaign was conducted’ at Dubryanpet . The premises were
cleaned and the people were explained about the importance of personal hygiene and clean
surrounding. The Valedictory function was held on 19 th September 2017. It was presided over
by Mr. N. Arivoli, Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, and Dr. Sathyanarayanan, Dental Superintendent,
IGIDS. The program commenced with the prayer song, presidential address, prize
distribution and ended with National Anthem.
