INAUGURATION OF THE UPGRADED RURAL HEALTH TRAINING CENTRE OF MGMCRI

The upgraded Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, a constituent college of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Deemed to be University, Pondicherry was dedicated  at its newly constructed venue at Aranganoor Village, Bahour Commune, Pondicherry by Thiru. M.K. Rajagopalan, the Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth in the august presence of Prof. Subhash Chandra Parija, the Vice Chancellor of SBV on 30th October 2019.

While dedicating the facilities of RHTC, the Chancellor of SBV, Thiru. M.K. Rajagopalan envisaged the vision of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, in taking the hi-tec health care facilities to the rural population at their doorsteps. This, we feel might propel other tertiary health care centres in this region to make available state-of-the-art health care facilities to the underprivileged and underserved strata of the society. “The upgraded Rural Health Training Centre will now cater to the health care needs of the people of Aranganoor Village, its surrounding areas of Bahour Commune, Villanour Commune and its neighbouring areas”.

Vice Chancellor Prof. S.C. Parija. speaking at the inaugural ceremony here at Aranganoor added that the facilities of the upgraded RHTC will include 25 beds, Labour Room, Ultrasound, ECG, X- rays, Lab facilities and Pharmacy. An ambulance will be stationed at RHTC to transport the patients referred for tertiary care treatment at the parent hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute.

The department of Community Medicine of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute will be in-charge of running the RHTC. In addition to the doctors and other staff posted here, the Postgraduates and the interns of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences will be taking care of the patients’ needs at their doorsteps in the surrounding areas of the RHTC.

The Dean of Faculty, Prof. Ananthakrishnan, the Registrar Prof. A.R. Srinivasan, Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Prof. M. Ravishankar, Medical Superintendent of MGMCRI, Prof. Nirmal Coumare, the heads of various departments of MGMCRI, senior faculty and staff were present at the brief and solemn inaugural ceremony.
