World Blood Donor Day Celebration, 14th June 2019

Departments of Pathology and transfusion medicine are proud to inform you all that the World Blood Donor Day was celebrated on June 14th, 2019 in Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University, Puducherry.

The theme of the event was “Safe Blood for All”. The program started with a prayer song at 9.00am in the foyer of OPD block. Dr. S. Sowmya, Professor& Head of Pathology Department welcomed the gathering. The chief guest of the program prof.Subhash Chandra Parija, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, SBV, and prof. M. Ravishankar, Dean, MGMCRI were felicitated by Dr. S. Sowmya.  The Vice-Chancellor gave the keynote address on the importance of blood donation.

Dr.B.Abhishekh, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, JIPMER, delivered a special guest talk on “Voluntary Blood Donation”. It was an eye-opener for all. He also talked about novel ways to increase voluntary blood donation.   Mr. Prabhu from “UyirThuli Association” was the guest of honor in view of his services rendered in voluntary blood donation (maximum number of blood donation for this academic year).Mrs. M. Logeswari, the technician from blood bank gave a short talk on “Myths and Facts of Blood donation”. The winners of the poster and debate competition were felicitated. Student voluntary donors from all constituent colleges of SBV were also felicitated and were encouraged to continue their good work. Dr. R. Loganathan (Medical Officer-In-Charge & Senior resident- Transfusion Medicine) gave a vote of thanks.

We organized debate and poster competition on 13th June 2019 on the theme of “Voluntary Blood Donation”, as a part of the celebration. Students from constituent colleges of SBV took part actively and made this a grand success. There were 10 teams for poster competition (3 members per team) and 6 participants for debate competition. The judges for the competition were Dr.Pramodini, Professor, Department of Microbiology and Dr.Mangala, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, MGMCRI.

The winner of the debate competition was Ms. Suganthalakshmi, second-year BSC MLT, Allied Health Sciences. The team which won poster competition constituted MsVaishali, Ms. Shabana Afrin, Ms. Indhumathi, students from BSC MLT, Allied Health Sciences. The prizes for the winners were given during the Blood Donor Day celebration by the Guest Speaker, Dr. Abhishek. We thank the management and administration for their support and encourage the faculty, technical staff and students to continue voluntary blood donation.
