“CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE OF UNKNOWN ETIOLOGY – UNRAVELLING ETIOPATHOGENESIS”
The Scientific and Academic Forum of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, a constituent college of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, deemed to be University, Pondicherry, organized the prestigious Shri M V Krishnamoorthy Iyer Annual External Oration on 22nd May 2019.
The oration was delivered by Prof O P Kalra, Vice-Chancellor, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Haryana on the topic “Chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology – unraveling etiopathogenesis” in the august presence of Shri M K Rajagopalan, Chancellor, Sri Balaji Vidhyapeeth. Prof O P Kalrathrough this oration shared his research experience on the various hidden etiological factors leading to chronic kidney disease. He summarized that numerous etiological agents have been implicated to cause Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) and he found that specifically Organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals levels were raised significantly in these patients, which in turn induces oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways and thus aggravating the existing condition.
Prof Subhash Chandra Parija, Vice-Chancellor of SBV, DrTarun Kumar Dutta, President of SAF, Dr. M Ravishankar Dean, MGMCRI were also present on this momentous occasion. During this event, SBV also released their newer magazine entitled as “EXCLUSIVE”, another important milestone in their history. The programme was largely attended by the faculty of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.
