OPD Services

General OPD Services

  • OPD functions between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm every day except Sundays and holidays. 
  • Patients are seen in separate consultation rooms by the consultants one-by-one on a first come first served basis to avoid confusion. Patients who are critically ill are given the priority for consultation and treatment.
  • Each patient is thoroughly evaluated and a proper management plan is arrived at with appropriate documentation in the case sheet.
  • The necessary investigation is raised using the Hospital Information System where all the investigation and prescriptions are generated electronically. All the investigations are provided with necessary clinical data and prescriptions are generated in generic names suggesting appropriate dose, duration and route of administration.
  • The senior consultants evaluate all the patients who require admission and the management plan is vetted at the time of admission for its appropriateness.
  • Hemodynamically unstable patients are immediately shifted to high dependency units with proper medical assistance. 

FLU Clinic

A dedicated “FLU CLINIC” was run during the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, where all the employees and residents were screened for flu like symptoms and fever by thermo scanners round the clock. IEC activities were undertaken at regular intervals, flyers were displayed in all the departments and patient centred areas.

Patients and their bystanders were screened for evidence of flu like illness and a dedicated fever clinic was run by the department of General Medicine to initiate appropriate segregation and management of such cases. A patient information sheet on Covid-19 in simple vernacular language was provided to all the patients and the use of mask, hand sanitization and social distancing was ensured throughout their hospital stay.

Specialty Clinic

The department runs Diabetes Clinic, Hypertension Clinic, Hematology Clinic, Nephrology Clinic, Neurology Clinic and Medical Gastroenterology Clinic.

Diabetic Clinic

Diabetic clinic offers exclusive diabetes care for all types of DM with special emphasis on Diet, Lifestyle modifications, early recognition of DM complications, imparting the benefits of Yoga and Music therapy to Diabetic patients. Diabetes Clinic offers free insulin, Glucometers and glucostrips and free diabetes investigations to all Type 1 Diabetes patients.

Haematology Clinic

We have an eminent faculty who is experienced for 30 years in haematology. This clinic is used by patients who have blood & coagulation related disorders.

Hypertension Clinic

This clinic targets patient who have hypertension, its related complications and follow up. Our department collaborates with yoga and music therapy department and ensures that the patients are given complete care.

Private Clinic

The department of General Medicine offers a fast track, quality out-patient care to patients by senior consultants. Department also offers a comprehensive Master Health Check-up service to individuals visiting hospital for a general check-up.

Seasonal Clinic

Department offers “Seasonal Clinic” facility during outbreaks of infectious diseases like Influenza outbreaks (Swine flu, avian influenza), Dengue, Malaria etc. The department frequently revises the SOP based the current guidelines and offer suggestions to the other health care sectors on appropriate reporting of cases during outbreak and its management.

Observing National Health Days

Department is actively involved in observing various National health days like World Diabetes Day, World Hypertension Day, World Obesity Day etc. During these days special camps are conducted in the community creating public awareness. Senior consultant address common clinical problems on FM radio. Students take active participation in conducting rally and making posters. Quiz programs are conducted for students to enhance their knowledge on observing these National Health Days as well as to impart the ideas of preventing medicine in them. 

In-Patient Care (Ward)

High Dependency Units (Medical Intensive Care Unit)

Department holds 15+ beds in MICU for critically ill patients with medical disorders. Patients are monitored by experienced consultants, residents and skilled nursing faculty members round the clock. Patients are managed based on approved standard guidelines. Daily auditing of patient clinical progress is done within the department. Department is also supported by an efficient and dedicated team of super-specialty consultants for advanced treatment.

Patient’s attendants are counselled periodically by the treating physicians and necessary information are provided about the patient condition, progress, treatment plan and probable outcome.

General In-Patient services

Department offers an affordable and quality treatment for the community. There are 250+ general ward beds scattered across 8 medicine units. About 10% of these beds also offer emergency medical services for relatively stable patients requiring frequent monitoring. Patients are monitored round the clock by a team of experienced doctors and nurses.

Separate isolation wards are provided for patients with infectious diseases. Regular auditing is performed for patient monitoring, investigations and prescription practices in order to prevent adverse events. Patients are supported by a team of counsellors, ward attendants and insurance team.

Covid-19 wards

Fully dedicated 200 bedded general wards for stable mild to moderate covid-19 illness was created along with required infrastructure provided by the management of MGMCRI.

An additional 100 bedded oxygen beds were created and utilized for management of Moderate Covid-19 illness.

Medical Intensive care units

There are ample no of intensive care beds to manage critical patients which are equipped with monitors to record cardiac rhythm, pulse oximeter, pulse rate, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring and respiratory rate. There are infusion pumps by which emergency drugs are given by infusion which is frequently monitored by nursing staffs, residents and consultants. This unit has dedicated crash cots with defibrillators for managing unstable patient

Covid-19 ICU

A dedicated 10 bedded Covid-19 ICU was created for management of Severe Covid-19 illness, which catered nearing 600 patients during the pandemic which lasted in 2020.

High suspect Covid-19 ICU

A dedicated 08 bedded ICU was functional for managing high suspect RT-PCR NEGATIVE but clinically strong suspicious cases of ARDS.

Outreach activities

Department conducts weekly telemedicine camps, general camps and specialty camps to facilitate specialty and super-specialty services to rural and urban areas surrounding Puducherry and TamilNadu.

Department was also actively involved in Covid-19 surveillance and running fever clinics in the community.
