INTRODUCTION

Department of Nursing services in MGMCRI has committed workforce which provides a holistic patient care round the clock.

Nursing care services are provided by professional nurses who are sound in knowledge, skill and attitude instilling completely and wellbeing among the patients.

PALLIATIVE NURSING

There are specialized trained nurses in palliative care department to take care of people living with serious illness. The main goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. The palliative care nurses helps to manage physical symptoms such as pain and provide emotional, spiritual and psychological support to the patient and family members.

CONTINUING NURSES EDUCATION

As a part of training & development for the nurses, Continuing Nurses Education is done every Wednesday on a regular basis.It is mainly to update the knowledge of nurses with evidence based practices in order to provide safe and quality patient care. Frequent training on NABH topics such as management of medication, Infection control practices, patient safety, fire safety management are organized. As professionals, nurses are expected to stay up to date by keeping their practice current. Hence the following are some of the topics that are covered:

LACTATION COUNSELLING

Lactation Counselling Trained Nurses provide continuous awareness on Early Initiation of Breast Feeding and Exclusive Breastfeeding to the delivered Mothers in OBG Wards and Labour wards. This helps the mother to manage breastfeeding difficulties and give assistance to employed mothers to continue breastfeeding.

PAIN MANAGEMENT NURSE

Pain management nurses assess patients to determine the severity and causes of their pain. They often examine the patient and help the patient to get relief of pain. They visit the patient immediately if they complaints of pain. The pain management nurse are there for round the clock and attend immediately to the voice of patient’s complaint to pain. They also attend the post-operate patients to assess the level of pain and take immediate action.

ENTONOX TRAINING

Entonox Trained Nurses provide bedside counselling to Antenatal patients regarding the painless delivery through the use of Entonox. Due to this training program, most the delivery patients in MGMCRI got benefited

TELEBARRIER NURSING FOR CCU

Critical Care Nurses regularly performing Tele-barrier nursing at patient bedside that will facilitate family members to interact with patients without entering the ICU room and aggravating infection risks to those under intensive care.As part of providing this service, MGMCRI has kept a tablet (computer fitted with camera, microphone and speaker) outside the ICU and another tablet is given to the patient inside the ICU. Both patient and bystander can engage in a real-time interaction. This makes easier for health care workers to avail them to clear patient’s doubts and helps to communicate with patients critical care units.

TRANSGENDER NURSING

Nursing services is extended to transgenders to provide equitable nursing care. The nurses working in MGMCRI cultivate patience and make them feel assured that the environment is safe for self-disclosure.

MEDICATION COUNSELLING

Medication counselling service is being provided to patients in MGMCRI. This services are attracted by many patients to the Counselling Centre to clarify their doubts regarding the medication to be followed at home. This helps to prevent medication errors and to improve the quality care.

AWARENESS PROGRAM

Nurse educators are actively participating in awareness programme that are conducted during the health camp. They create awareness by giving lectures on various topics such as women’s health, breast self-examination and on general women health in community areas and in schools.

BLS TRAINING

The Basic Life Support hands on training are conducted for all staff nurses by the AHA trained educators. Through this training program the staff nurse are able to actively participate in the resuscitation and help to save the life of the critically ill patients.

MAINTAINING STANDARDS OF NURSING CARE

The department of nursing services maintained the nursing care standards as recommended by NABH. The department hasa process-driven approach in all aspects of nursing care activities – from registration, admission, pre-surgery, peri-surgery and post-surgery protocols, discharge from the hospital to follow up with the hospital after discharge. Not only the clinical aspects but the governance aspects are also to process driven based on clear and transparent policies and protocols. Such as policies for code activations( code blue, pink), pressure sore assessment and management, prevention of fall, needle stick injuries, hospital infection control practices etc. Periodic audit is conducted to streamline to improve the quality of care such as patient handing over & taking over, patient identification, braden scale assessment & PUSH scale, nurse patient ratio.
