Swachhata Pakhwada – SSSMCRI

Swachhata Pakhwada was observed by SSSMCRI from 1st to 15th September 2017. The whole activity lasted for almost 15 days. Faculty and students of all semester contributed towards clean surroundings.

Activities on day 1st of Swachhata Pakhwada

The surroundings near to the campus were cleaned by the Vth SEMESTER students marking the beginning of a new initiative. Garbages and plastic wastes were segregated, collected and disposed in the dust bins which were placed by the college authority. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am.It was being guided and led forward the respective faculties of 2nd year department.

Activities on day 2nd of Swachhata Pakhwada

The hostel surroundings were cleaned by the hostel students with their respective hostel wardens & faculties . Garbages and plastic wastes were segregated, collected and disposed in the dust bins which were placed at the hostel. The whole activity lasted till 6.00 pm.The students actively participated to make their hostel surroundings clean and free from wastes.

Activities on day 3rd of Swachhata Pakhwada

The surroundings near to the campus were cleaned by the CRRIs aiming to take an holisttic approach to campus sustainability. Garbages and plastic wastes were segregated, collected and disposed in the dust bins which were placed by the college authority. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am. It was being guided and led forward the respective faculties of 4th year department.

Activities on day 4th of Swachhata Pakhwada

The mess of both hostels were cleaned by the hostel students. Garbages and plastic wastes were segregated, collected and disposed in the dust bins which were placed inside the hostel mess. The whole activity lasted till 6.00 pm. It was being guided and led forward the hostel wardens & faculties.

Activities on day 5th of Swachhata Pakhwada

An essay was held for every students of SSSMC&RI on innovative ways to spread the message of hygiene which was actively participated by every students at respective venues and was being evaluated by respective faculties and the winners were announced at the end of the programme.

Activities on day 6 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

We started from college campus at 9.30 am by college vehicle. The students were divided into six groups. They were allotted specific locations from Kattur Sivan temple to Ammapettai tank along with the faculty. Students showed their full enthusiasm and support towards cleaning activities. Garbages and plastic wastes were segregated, collected and disposed in the dust bins which were placed by the local body. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am. Then students along with the faculties returned back to the college.

Activities on day 7 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

We started from college campus at 9.30 a.m. by college vehicle. We reached the Sembakkam village. We cleaned the streets leading to our rural health training centre. We conducted awareness program for the villagers who assembled near our Rural Health Centre. The importance of cleanliness, hygiene, proper waste disposal were explained to them.

Activities on day 8 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

We started from college campus at 9.30 am by college vehicle along the students and faculties. We reached Thiruporur town panchayat office. The executive officer of the Thiruporur town panchayat gave a brief speech on garbage collection, segregation and disposal methods adopted in the town panchayat. Daily garbage collection starts at 6 am in the morning. Door to door collection of segregated garbage is done by the panchayat sanitary workers.

They are transported to compost yard. Vermi-composting is done using the vegetable wastes. After the informative talk we thanked the officials and returned back to college.

Activities on day 9 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

We started from college campus at 9.30 am by college vehicle along the students and faculties. We reached market at Thiruporur. The students were briefed about the activities. The students were divided into four teams. They went to various shops in the market. They interacted with the shop keepers about the garbage collection and disposal methods. The students gave awareness to the shopkeepers about importance of cleanliness, proper segregation of garbage and elimination of mosquito breeding places. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am. Then students along with the faculties returned back to the college.

Activities on day 10 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

The students assembled at the hospital campus at 9.30 am. The students were briefed about the colour coded bins, importance of segregation of biomedical waste and the method of disposal of different types of biomedical wastes. The students then visited various wards in the hospital and they interacted with the staff members on the biomedical waste collection, segregation, transportation and disposal. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am.

Activities on day 11 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

The students assembled at the hospital campus at 9.30 am and we went to Anbagam orphanage home, near Mambakkam. The students were briefed about the cleanliness and how to give awareness to care givers. We cleaned the rooms and surroundings in the orphanage and gave awareness about how to clean and dispose the waste and the importance of cleanliness. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am.

Activities on day 12 th of Swachhata Pakhwada

We started from college campus at 9.30 a.m by college vehicle along the students and faculties. We reached Thiruporur town panchayat office. We met the executive officer and assistant executive engineer of the Thiruporur town panchayat. The students interacted with them. Queries about garbage collection, segregation and disposal methods adopted in the town panchayat, maintenance of public toilets, water supply and drainage system maintenance were discussed. The whole activity lasted till 11.30 am. Then students along with the faculties returned back to the college.

Activities on day 13th of Swachhata Pakhwada

Hostel rooms were inspected by the respective wardens, MS,VP and faculty based on certain criteria and the winners were announced at the end of the programme.

Activities on day 14th of Swachhata Pakhwada

An elocution was held for every students of SSSMCRI on ''Health and Hygiene is the real wealth'' which was actively participated by every students at respective venues and was being evaluated by respective faculties and the winners were announced at the end of the programme.

Activities on day 15th of Swachhata Pakhwada

A closing ceremony was held for distribution of prizes and certificates for the winners by the respective Dean and marked an end to a great programme –“SWACHHATA PAKHWADA”
