To observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26th 2020 various competitive events were organized for the students of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Pondicherry through online. These events were based on the current year’s theme “Better Knowledge for Better Care”. This theme primarily emphasizes about the need to improve the understanding of the world drug problem and how in turn, better knowledge will foster greater international cooperation for countering its impact on health, governance and security.
The following events were organized – Slogan writing competition, Painting competition, E- poster contest and Podcast contest. Nearly 38 students participated with enthusiasm in these competitions and showed their interest in supporting the society against the problem of drug abuse. The winners of the competitions were

2nd place Vidyalakshmi S Yadav1601001128 In order to create awareness among the students about the impact of drug abuse in addicts and their experiences in successful deaddiction, an online session was organized in coordination with the Department of Psychiatry, MGMCRI. During this session a briefing related to the current year’s theme was delivered to the students, followed by sharing of patients experiences in overcoming the addiction under the title – “Liberation from drug abuse – my experience” through online platform. 254 undergraduate students participated in this online session.
