SPECTRA 2K18

 

The annual college fest of Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, SPECTRA, entered its third year and this time it was even bigger. For the first time in the history of MGMCRI, as many as 18 colleges were invited to take part in the event. The colleges which participated are as follows:

Puducherry – JIPMER, Aarupadai Veedu Medical College, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College, Indra Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College

Tamil Nadu – SSSMC&RI, Vellore Medical College, Kilpauk Medical College, MMC, Chengalpet Medical College, Chettinad Medical College, SRM, Vinayaka Mission Salem, Trichy Govt. Medical College, Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute, Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Villupuram Medical College

The grand event spanned a total of 5 days from April 3, 2018, to April 7, 2018. As many as 70 events were conducted under the sports, cultural, fine arts and literary and debating divisions.

On the first day, April 3, 2018, the gates opened for the event to begin. Fine Arts and Literary and debating events commenced on April in the morning in the college block. Small carnival-type games were also held for the noble cause of raising awareness and money to help various charitable organizations by the Helping Hearts group. Various songs were dedicated to students and faculty at the technical desk adding to the gala atmosphere.

Sports Inauguration was held in the evening. Mr.Kamaraj, who was awarded the best shutter in Youth Asian Championship, was the Chief Guest for the Inauguration. He was accompanied by our beloved Dean, MGMCRI, Prof. M. Ravishankar; Prof. Robinson S. Smile; Vice-Principal (Students), Dr. Partha Nandi and Vice-Principal (Curriculum), Dr. V.N. Mahalakshmi. The Chief Guest declared the meet open and it was followed by a friendly volleyball match, in which MGMCRI team won. The whole event was organized meticulously by our Sports Secretaries with the guidance of our Sports Convener Dr. Karthikeyan and Physical Director Mr. Saravanan, without whom none of this would have been possible.

On April 5, 2018, the stage was set for the big night. Cultural Night began with a bang and went on for the next three days. It was inaugurated by Mr. Johny Tom Varghese, IAS, Sub-Collector cum Sub-Divisional Magistrate. He was accompanied by our esteemed Vice-Chairman, Sri Balaji Educational and Charitable Trust, Dr. Prashanth Rajagopalan, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sethuraman, Dean, Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Anantha Krishnan, Dean, MGMCRI Prof. M. Ravishankar, Mrs. Asha Suresh Babu, GM Admin and  Senior Personal Manager, Mr. Balamukundhan.

Shortly after the inauguration, Choreo Night took place, where participants from various colleges graced the stage and the day finally came to an end with a surprise DJ performance.

On April 6, 2018, we had playback singer Karthik along with his band for a live concert followed by Battle of the Bands. Special performance by the judges for the event was enthralling.

On April 7, 2018, the final day, the Fashion Show set the stage on fire. Prizes were distributed for the winners of cultural and sports events. Overall Sports Championship was bagged by our college MGMCRI, the Cultural Championship by JIPMER and the Overall Championship was again won by our college. SPECTRA had proven to be a great platform to showcase the talent of medical students.  It was followed by the DJ night that everyone was eagerly waiting for. For the first time, SUNBURN, the most acclaimed DJ in India, performed in our college. With a mix of three DJs of different genres, we had the night of our lives.
