Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, SBV, was bestowed with “John Salk Award” for best Philanthropic activity by The Doctors United Charitable Trust held on 27th March 2016 at Hotel Annamalai, Puducherry. This prestigious Award was received by Dr. Sathyanarayan R, Professor and Head, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, IGIDS, SBV, on behalf of the Institution from Mr. Babu, IAS and Secretary to Govt of Puducherry.
Ms. Hema, CRRI, IGIDS, SBV, received “Edward Jenner Award” for Best CRRI for her work on “Interns Social Responsibility”. She designed an original health education aid in Braille language for visually challenged people which contains basic oral hygiene instructions in her final year BDS. Her interest pushed her further to explore the usefulness of this aid by conducting a research and found its benefits. She is determined and came up with an Oral Health education book, an eye opener for visually challenged, with important tips like brushing, oral hygiene maintenance, etc, in Braille. Multiple copies of this book were made and distributed to different Government blind schools at Pondicherry and Cuddalore
