Center for Music Therapy Education and Research a unit of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (AIM HIGH)
Academy of Integrative Medicine for Holistic Interventions for General Health through its innovative
measure of moving forward from pathogenesis to Salutogenesis has been pioneering in introducing
music therapy services through its training, research and patient care activities since 2010 in India.
Since then, the Center has been very actively engaged in inter-disciplinary research creating
evidence for music therapy applications in patient care outcomes and also shortly commences a
Masters degree program in Medical Music Therapy in the beginning of the year 2016. The university
also In continuation of its persevering efforts to strive for excellence, today entered into a
memorandum of understanding with an Austria based IMC University of Applied Sciences ( leaders
in music therapy education and research in Europe) with a goal to internationalize its educational
and research activities and promote student exchange programs and collaborative research projects
in music therapy and collaborative Master’s and Ph.D. Programs in music therapy. The faculty and
students of both the universities would benefit through these exchange programs on music therapy
neurological rehabilitation, neuro-science in music therapy, microanalysis and video documentation
in music therapy, traditions in music therapy, hospital based music therapy and medical research
methods in music therapy and so on.
The IMC University runs the bachelors degree and masters degree program in music therapy and
SBV plans to launch a Ph.D. program in music therapy soon. Through this MOU, the Masters degree
students of IMC Krems will have the opportunity to pursue their Ph.d. program from SBV through its
wing CMTER. IMC University of Applied Sciences, Krems have so far established 27 music therapy
programs in all the hospitals of Austria and are funded by the Austrian Government. All the
programs are established under the federal law of Austria for music therapy.
The MOU ceremony started with an invocation by the CMTER faculty Mrs. Bhuvaneswari Ramesh.
Dr. Sumathy Sundar, Director, CMTER gave the welcome address and described the purpose of the
MOU ceremony. An introduction to the activities of CMTER was presented by Dr. Shobana Jaiganesh,
Adjunct faculty of CMTER. Prof. Karl Ennsfellner, CEO presented on the vision of the IMC University
and Prof. Tucek on their robust brain research on music therapy processes and how they integrate
the ethno therapeutic and neuro-anthropological aspects in their music their music their practice
and research. Benediction address – Music Therapy as value addition to standard medical care was
given by Hon. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. KR Sethuraman. Prof. Karl Ennsfellner, CEO of the IMC
University of Applied Sciences, Krems, Austria and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Tucek, Head of Research,
Department of Health Sciences and Program Director, Department of Music Therapy were the
distinguished guests for the day to sign the Mou. Ms. Bhuvaneswari Ramesh, Tutor delivered the
vote of thanks
