SRIPSCON 2017

The Golden Jubilee International Conference of Indian Pharmacological Society, Southern Region – 2017 was organized by the Department of Pharmacology, MGMCRI on 3rd to 5th July 2017.The theme of the conference was “Systems Pharmacology & P4 Medicine”.Dr. C. Adithan, Director – CIDRF and Professor in Pharmacology, MGMCRI, Puducherry was the Organizing Chairman and Dr. Manimekalai. K, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology, MGMCRI, Puducherry was the Organizing Secretary for the conference.

The 3 conference including the pre-conference workshop was funded by Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Medical Council of India, Indian Council of Medical Research and Scientific and Engineering Research Board, Govt. of India.More than 350 pharmacologists from all over India attended this conference.

The Inaugural Function was presided by Dr.K.R.Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, SBV. Dr. Michael Spedding, Secretary General IUPHAR,France (International Union of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology) was the chief guest. Dr. Y.K.Gupta, Prof  & HOD, Dept.of Pharmacology, AIIMS, was the guest of honour. Many renowned international speakers from USA, France, Netherlands, Malaysia and over 50 eminent speakers from all over India delivered the lectures. To name a few – Dr. Spedding, Prof. Helmut Brand, Prof. Dr. Angela Brand, Prof. S.P.Pani, Prof.Srinivas N. Kumar, Dr.R.K.Goyal,, Dr.K.K.Sharma, Dr. Urmila thatte, Dr.B. Geetanjali, Dr. N.Kshirsagar, Dr. Bikash Medhi, Dr. Nitya Gotgay, Dr. Sameer Malhotra, who delivered their interesting, thought provoking lectures.Around 70researchers presented their oral papers and 90 delegates presented posters in various fields of pharmacology.

Three workshops on Molecular Biology, Good Clinical Practice and Scientific Writing were conducted. These interactive sessions allowed delegates to broaden their interest and knowledge in different aspects of Pharmacology.The conference included six symposiums on emerging thrust areas of pharmacology namely Pharmacovigilance, Systems Pharmacology, P4 Medicine, Personalized Medicine, Indigenous Medicine, AYUSH and Antimicrobial Resistance. Dr. Mira Desai, Ahmedabad gave the CDRIoration and Dr. B.Geetanjali, Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, delivered the Dr.Lalitha Kameswaran Oration. There was a panel discussion on Postgraduate Pharmacology Teaching with experts from various fields like academics, pharmaceutical industry etc. The valedictory function was held on 5 July 2017. It was presided by Dr.M.Ravishankar, Dean and Dr.S.C.Parija, Director, JIPMERwas the Chief Guest. The winners of U.K.Sheth prize for the best Clinical Pharmacology paper, Dr.Achari Prize for the best Basic Pharmacology research paper, Dr.Manjeet Singh Prize for the best molecular pharmacology and P.C.Dandiya prize for the best poster were distributed by the Chief Guest
