Blind Walk Rally by SBV Students

THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED LEAD THE TEMPORARILY BLINDED

With the slogan of ‘LET EVERYONE SEE’ a rally of a different kind was conducted under Project Vision Pondicherry on October 12, 2017, to commemorate World Sight Day.
The ‘BLIND WALK RALLY’ certainly captured the interest of people since it consisted of nearly 1,700 people participating and most of them were walking blindfolded for the distance of over 1.5 km from Anna Thidal to Gandhi Square at the beach. They were led by over 100 visually impaired people and the temporarily blinded walking in a line behind them with a hand on the shoulder of the person in front.
The objective of this rally is to create awareness on eye donation by focusing on the difficulties faced by visually impaired people. NSS volunteers from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College and Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences eagerly
participated in the rally. The rally concluded at the beach where the Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru. V. Narayanasamy was the Chief Guest and led the pledge for eye donation and handed over the certificates to the participants.
