EDUCATION AT SRI BALAJI VIDYAPEETH

The Campus

Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is one amongst the foremost health sciences Deemed Universities in the country that is committed to holistic growth of students. The main campus is situated over a sprawling area in Pondicherry and is located at Pillaiyarkuppam, proximal to Cuddalore. There are three constituent colleges in the main campus, namely Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences and Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College. Besides there are faculty of Allied Health Sciences , Physiotherapy and School of Pharmacy are located in the Main campus at Pondicherry. The off-campus institutes, namely Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute and Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing are situated at Ammapettai, near Tiruporur, Tamilnadu.

Centres augment the educational initiatives of SBV

In addition, SBV has in its academic armamentarium seven state-of-the-art centres, namely  Medical Simulation Centre (MSC) that is approved as an international training centre by the American Heart Association (AHA),Central Inter-disciplinary Research Facility (CIDRF), Centre For Health Professions education   (CHPE), Centre For Music Therapy Education and Research  ( CMTER), Centre For Yoga Therapy Education and Research (CYTER), Centre For Animal Research and Training services (CAReTS)  and the Cadaver lab located at the Off campus, named as Advanced Surgical Training and Research Academy (ASTRA). To facilitate the students in pursuit of the chosen academic avenues, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth has offered the services of Central Library at the main and off campuses that have a comprehensive collection of Standard Textbooks, Reference books, besides housing print volumes of journals and online issues. A state-of-the-art Digital library is a key establishment in the  Central Library.

The teachers and the taught

The faculty members in the realms of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences are ever committed to the academic growth and care a lot for the students in shaping their chosen careers. The students are discerning and enjoy the salubrious academic ambience that is synonymous with the developmental activities in the frontiers of academics. Academic flexibility is a unique facet endowed with Deemed universities. Taking cognizance of this, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth has successfully embarked on Choice Based Credit Courses (CBCS) in several academic programmes in Allied Health sciences, besides conducting academic courses and programmes in conventional modes related to medicine, dentistry and Nursing that are under the purview of the Regulatory agencies, namely Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India and Indian Nursing Council. The teachers and the taught enjoy their respective roles that culminate in near optimal academic growth and progress.

All work and no play is not SBV’s prerogative

Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth does not believe that academics alone would render the students competent. Hence, a plethora of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are planned throughout the academic year. Nine student Clubs are in place and also includes SPIC MACAY, the well known All India Society for the promotion of Classical Music and Culture amongst youth. SBV is one among the handful of Deemed Universities that has recognized the concept of salutogenesis or well being. Mention must be made of the fact that SBV has promulgated music therapy and yoga therapy to the students, but with a different perspective i.e. to promote well being among the student community and regular sessions are being held for the benefit of the students, beyond working hours, in order not to infringe upon the academics.

SBV has embraced this phenomenal verse into the folds of the campus in imparting education amidst a healthy campus environment that has ZERO TOLERANCE for ragging. We believe that when the mind is without fear, it would culminate in all round progress, as exemplified by the holistic growth of the students in terms of the acumen that they possess and activities that they partake of.
