Profile Summary

Dr. Agieshkumar has more than 15 years of experience in vector borne disease research. During his doctoral work he was involved in exploring the molecular basis of vector-parasite interactions. During his first postdoctoral training at Texas Tech University (USA) he studied the role of sphingolipids in the virulence of Leishmaniasis. His second stint of postdoctoral training at the Dept of cellular biology, University of Georgia (USA) gained him training on RNA interference mediated gene silencing in vectors. His expertise includes Molecular cloning, microinjection and homologous recombination methods. He started his career as Assistant professor in the School of Chemical and Biotechnology (SCBT), SASTRA University (Deemed), India. There apart from teaching to B.Tech, M.tech and M.Sc students in various areas of Biotechnology, he had mentored students for UG and PG dissertations, and PhD degree. He has received extramural funding from National agencies; DBT, ICMR. He has published several high quality papers in peer reviewed Journals including Plos NTDs, Plos One, IUBMB life, JCV, IJID, Green chemistry etc.,. Dr. Agiesh joined CIDRF in 2015 and is currently researching on “Lipids in the pathogenesis of dengue virulence& biomarker identification for early prediction of severe dengue”. He has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Entomology, UK (2019).

She had co-authored 7 publications in peer reviewed international journals with cumulative Impact factor of 21.11 and total citation index of 364.
Her research work is on the scientific validation of Terminalia arjuna for osteoporosis using mesenchymal stem cells, ovariectomized animal model, High Sucrose High fat Diet induced mice model.
She is currently guiding a Ph.D student.

Dr. Mangaiyarkarasi Ravirajan is a marine biologist with more than 30 years of academic, administrative and research experience. She was Professor & HOD, Dept of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, and Principal at C. Kandaswami Naidu College for women, Cuddalore. She was also the Controller of Examinations in Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore. She has completed a major Research Project funded by University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India. After superannuation, she served as Principal at Sri Aravindar Arts and Science College, Vanur. In 2014 She Joined as Educationist in Medical Education Unit (MEU), Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth’s (SBV) SBV-AHEAD program and coordinated the PGDHPE course. In 2015 she was awarded the UGC Emeritus Fellowship and was serving as an Emeritus Scientist at CIDRF from 2015 -2017.  Her experience and interest span medicinal plants biodiversity and marine biotechnology. Her current research oversees the aims to develop novel approaches for the extraction and therapeutic activity of marine biomolecules in relation to human carcinoma cells.



Dr Anitha T.S

Dr.Anitha T.S has completed her Post Graduation and Doctoral degree in Animal Biotechnology from the Dept. of Animal Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. She has been awarded a Summer Research Fellowship from the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and UGC-SAP Research Fellowship for Meritorious Scholars. She has research experience from various reputed national institutes such as IITM, Chennai and NCCS, Pune.
Her areas of research mainly focus on oxidative stress-induced eye disorders and cancer biology (Glioblastoma (GBM) and Retinoblastoma). She works on the genomic and proteomic techniques for treating or preventing ocular diseases or cancer models both in an in vitro and in vivo experimental animal model. She also works on miRNA biomarker identification in Tuberculosis patients. In addition, she is working as a Quality Control Personnel for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Services rendered by our Department as Hospital Services. Currently, she is guiding 1 Doctoral candidate who is working on establishing an animal model for glioblastoma and repurposing available drugs for the treatment of GBM. She has also trained interns and Post-Doctoral Fellows for a part of their work.

She has published original research and review articles in reputed international and in national journals with the citation index of 114 and h-index of 5. She is serving as a Board of Studies member for the Dept. of Animal Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy. She has also been appointed as a reviewer for Molecular Vision, and International Journal for Homeopathy and Natural Medicine.

Dr. Pooja Pratheesh received her doctoral training during 2004-2009 under the guidance of Prof. Subrata Sinha at the Department of Biochemistry, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. She was trained to generate and screen Phage Display Libraries of scFv fragments against Placental isozyme of Alkaline Phosphatase (PLAP), an onco-fetal marker. Her work showed that the conformational changes due to loss of scaffold can lead an scFv molecule to lose its affinity and specificity.
Later she moved to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, Tamilnadu. At CMC, she worked under the mentorship of Dr. B. S. Ramakrishna and was trained in GC-MS and SPE techniques. She was awarded Research Associates fellowship by ICMR to explore the metabolic signatures of the stool samples from IBD patients. Her work was selected to be presented at YRLS conference, organized by University of Paris, Diderot, Paris, France in May 2012
She joined CIDRF as a scientist in June 2013. She was selected for Pilot Project Grant for Young Investigators in Cancer Biology run by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. She is currently working on the cancer biology of Glioblastomas. Her other research interest is obesity associated tumorigenesis. She is currently guiding two PhD students at CIDRF and is a co-guide for two students in the Department of Microbiology, MGMCRI, SBV, Pondicherry.



Dr Sam Vijay Kumar J


Profile Summary

Sam has completed his doctoral work on cancer stem cells in oral squamous cell carcinoma from Christian Medical College, Vellore. He has received national fellowships (JRF and SRF) during doctoral studies. He has worked on deriving clinical grade bone marrow derived Mesenchymal stem cells from human and mouse bone marrow. He has a master’s degree (M.Sc) in Biotechnology from Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. He has completed B.Sc (Medical Laboratory Technology) from JIPMER, Puducherry. He was awarded the Biotech Industrial Training Programme (BITP) fellowship (awarded  by  Biotech  Consortium  India  Limited  for  the  Department  of  Biotechnology, Government  of  India) in the year 2004-2005 during which he was trained in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). His career interest areas are Stem cells, Cancer, Pluripotency and Differentiation. He has presented his research findings in various national and international level conferences. He is a member of the Indian Association for Cancer Research (IACR). He has applied for two Patents (in 2017 & 2019) and a Copyright (in 2018).
