Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, SBV, celebrated Darwin’s week from 13th to 17th Feb 2017 on commemoration of Charles Darwin’s contributions to evolution .On day 1, community oral cancer screening program was conducted at Thukkanankuppam village peripheral health center by Dr. Vezhavendhan, Professor, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology and Dr Premlal, Reader, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, IGIDS. On day 2, two new Research proposals were submitted by Dr. Vidya Lakshmi, Reader and Dr Suganya, Senior Lecturer, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, as primary investigators with undergraduate and post graduate as co investigators. On day 3, Debate was conducted for III year undergraduate students on ‘Evolution of science and technology through ages, boon or bane’. The debate was moderated by Dr Sivaramakrishnan, Senior Lecturer and Dr Vidya Lakshmi . Dr Mangaiyakarasi, Senior scientist from Central Interdisciplinary Research Facility, SBV, delivered a motivational talk to the young I year BDS students on the topic “The scientist as a responsible member of the society- A personal perceptive on research integrity” on day 4. On day 5, Postgraduate students of IGIDS participated in essay competition on ‘Research opportunity in under graduate curriculum – A Postgraduates perspective’. Dr Uma Mageshwari and Dr Juhi, III post graduate students, won prizes and the competition was convened by Dr Santha Devy, Prof and Head, Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, IGIDS.
