The “Focus Group Discussion” was based on the “Experience of Tobacco Cessation Counselling (Tcc)”. This program was held on 24.10.2019 at 2:00-3:00 pm in the ground floor oral medicine department in the seminar hall, IGIDS. The discussion was inaugurated by Dr. Jagat Reddy, the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. The session was moderated by Dr. Sivasankari, Reader the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. Dr.vidhya from Public Health Dentistry also participated in this discussion. students have also participated.
The security guards were segregated into 2 groups: one group were smokers and other groups were non-smokers. First, there was a small introduction about tobacco cessation counselling by Dr. Sivasankari . Two groups shared all the difficulties they have encountered so far. Followed by Interns Dr. V. Veni and Dr. Kaviya has presented detailed about tobacco cessation counselling along with pictures by powerpoint presentation. Then we asked questions for smokers and non-smokers separately.
The security guards were more enthusiastic in participating in the focus group discussion. They were very comfortable in sharing their experiences with the doctors. Doctors gave their ideas to the security guards to quit smoking. At the end of the session, the students had a fruitful discussion and gained practical knowledge. This discussion greatly highlighted the security guard’s mentality, behaviour and their treatment methods in the cessation of their tobacco habits.
