PAL – KAVALAN SDF for Special Needs Children

On the occasion of International Youth Day 2024, the team Public Health Dentistry Indira Gandhi institutes of Dental Sciences, SRI Balaji Vidyapeeth launched the silver diamine fluoride preventive program- PAL – KAVALAN SDF for special needs children. Dr. Bruce Anderson, Adjuvant Faculty,Indira Gandhi institute of dental sciences,Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University funded this program.
The program began with the national anthem and a welcome address. The inauguration was done by the honorable Chief Guest Dr. L. Swasticharan additional deputy director general of health services, CMO National oral health program, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India, Guest of Honor Professor Nihar Ranjan Biswas Vice Chancellor, SRI Balaji Vidyapeeth University, Dr. Aruna Sharma principal and head of the department of pedodontics and preventive dentistry IGIDS, SBV, Dr.Kavi Priya State nodal officer National oral health program, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of Puducherry, Mrs.Chitra Shah ,founder and director of Sathya Special school, Dr Bruce Anderson, Adjuvant Faculty ,Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences,SBV Delivered their speeches. Then a video clip from the ongoing Danth Sahayak program was shown, followed by a brief description of the PALKAVALAN -SDF program. The session was completed with a vote of gratitude by Dr. Senthil M., Head of the Department of Team Public Health Dentistry.
This program will help the special children at Satya Special School. It involves applying fluoride varnish and silver diamine fluoride to teeth that have cavities to prevent dental caries. The Department of Public Health Dentistry’s postgraduate residents will receive training from the faculty members to perform the procedures. This program has received funding of one lakh rupees and will run for a year, benefiting one hundred special children.
