The Annual Convocation of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, a Deemed to be University in Pondicherry was held on 5th September 2019 at the university campus in Pilliayarkuppam. Dr.MathuramSantosham, Professor, Department of International Health & Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, USA, Senior Advisor – International Vaccine Access Centre (IVAC) was  the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring convocation address.
He bestowed 49medals of academic excellence including Sri ManagovindaParija Endowment Medal for excellence in Overall MBBS, Dr.SurendiranAdithan Endowment Medal for excellence in II MBBS, Dr.VanyAdithan Endowment Medal for excellence in MD Radiodiagnosis, Dr.CarounanidyEndowment Medal for excellence in MD General Medicine and Prof. Mohan Kameswaran Endowment Medal for excellence in MS Otorhinolaryngology.
While delivering a thought-provoking and emotional convocation address, Dr.MathuramSantosham drew reference to real-life situations that any fledgeling professional will encounter during the period of adolescence and the concurrent college life. However, if hard work and perseverance are given top priority, then education becomes more valuable, valid besides an edge over others in promoting societal development and service to the communities. In this direction, he was quite hopeful of the fact that given the sharpness, agility and overall intelligence in comparison to the previous generations, the present would certainly be the recipients of a bright future. On-time management, Dr.MathuramSantosham extolled the virtues of segregating well-defined portions of time during the day which would certainly enhance and optimize meaningful contributions of young professionals.
The Founder Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth Shri. MK Rajagopalan presided over the solemn academic ceremony and conferred degrees on 554graduands,drawn from the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences from the constituent colleges, namely Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College and Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, including 8 Doctoral Scholars.
The Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Prof Subhash Chandra Parija, presented a comprehensive and impressive annual report, which touched upon the various facets of Health Science Education at SBV. Prof. Parija continued by laying due emphasis on the cardinal initiatives undertaken at SBV that include initiatives in the realms Intellectual Property Rights, a frequently ignored avenue in Health Science institutions. Elaborating on the initiatives of SBV he remarked that SBVhas not compromised till date on the quality and ethical content of such endeavours including those at the national level.
The Dean of Faculty, Prof N Ananthakrishnan administered the pledge to the graduates while the Registrar Prof AR Srinivasan proposed the vote of thanks. The Trustees of SBV Smt. GowriRajagopalan and Dr.PrashanthRajagopalan, Director of MGM Health Care, Chennai
Several luminaries including Dr S.R. Rao from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Dr Krishna Seshadri, Consultant Endocrinologist, Chennai and Dr.VijayachariPaluru, Director, Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Port Blair participated in the solemn ceremony.
It is to be noted that Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is accredited by India’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with ‘A’ Grade and is ranked one among top Universities of India by NIRF 2019.
