DENTAL EDUCATION UNIT

Dental Education Unit, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, was founded by pioneers of Health Professions Education to train the faculty members on various aspects of teaching and evaluating undergraduate and postgraduate students along with curriculum enrichment and administration. This is exclusive to improve the quality of the teaching faculty to make learning an enjoyable experience for the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Dental Education Unit of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences is involved in the training of trainers in Dental Education. The unit has vibrant and trained dental professionals handling the sessions. Apart from conducting Training of Trainers workshop for the external faculty members of other dental institutions, the unit also plays a key role in the conduction of continuing faculty development programs for the internal faculty members of IGIDS. The unit also conducts First BDS orientation program, Student Clinician Orientation ProgrammE (SCOPE) for third BDS students, Interns Orientation Program (IOP), Postgraduate Orientation Program, Pedagogy training for postgraduates, Research methodology and training on dissertation writing and reference management for postgraduates and AERO BICS CHAMP program for constant support of postgraduate learning from first year till final year.
GOAL
- To disseminate the science of education among the undergraduate and postgraduate teachers in dentistry.
OBJECTIVES
- Faculty Development
     To train the teachers from dental institutions periodically, so that they would facilitate learning in an effective way.
- Research in Dental Education
     To conduct studies and develop experimental models to arrive at solutions for problems in dental education.
- Development of Resource Centre
     To develop a hub of study material in dental education.
- Providing an interactive online platform
     To provide an online station wherein brainstorm sessions of faculty from other institutions across disciplines can share their views on dental        education.
- Developing Teaching Learning Aids
     To develop teaching-learning aids which would enable effective learning for the students.
- Developing Systems of Assessment
     To develop assessment methods.
- Developing Instructional Designs
     To develop specific learning objectives and making attempts to reform the existing curriculum at the institutional and the national level.
Future Plan
    To become the Regional Center of Excellence in Dental Education.
