WORKSHOP ON CONVERT YOUR DISSERTATION INTO PUBLICATIONS -2019

Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth organized its first workshop on “Convert Your Dissertation into Publications” from 2/4/2019 to 6/4/2019. The main objective of the workshop was to convert a dissertation into three publishable papers namely original research article, review article, and short communication. Total of 12 Postgraduate students was divided into three groups, four in each group with their guides and facilitators. Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. S.C Parija, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the workshop, followed by Prof. A .R. Srinivasan, Registrar, SBV gave a brief note on overview of the workshop. Prof. Selvaraj Stephen, Assoc Dean Research, SBV, mentioned the responsibility of students and guides towards the workshop. Dr.B.V.Adkoli, Director, CHPE, SBV spoke on “Language skills in research paper writing”. After a short tea break Dr. Renuka K, Principal, KGNC, SBV, presented a topic on “IMRAD, Title, Abstract writing & selection of journals” followed by group exercise with the guides and facilitators. Prof. B.Sivaprakash, HOD, Dept of Psychiatry, MGMCRI, gave a detailed view on the topic “ How to write a review article” and also clarified the queries raised by the students, followed by a group exercise in the afternoon session. Day two started with a presentation of a review article by the PG students. The students sent their review articles for plagiarism check to the senior statistician, SBV. Prof .P.S.Manoharan, IGIDS explored the topic “Authorship, Copyright and Ethical issues” followed by Prof.Sumathy P, Vice principal, KGNC, deliberated on the topic “How to write an abstract”. Dr.B.V.Adkoli, Director, CHPE, SBV, presented the topic on “How To Write An Introduction”, which was highly informative, followed by a group exercise. Presentation of the abstract and introduction in the afternoon session. Prof. A Santhadevy, IGIDS, presented a topic on “How to write materials and methods” followed by a group exercise. Students received less than  10% plagiarism report from Senior statistician for their review articles. On day three, Presentation of Materials and Methods was done by the students. Prof.J. Anbalagan, Principal, Allied health sciences, SBV, enlightened the session on the topic of “Structure of Short Communication/Letter/Correspondence/Dispatch” which was quite new and informative, followed by a group exercise. Prof.V. Abhijit from Dept of Community Medicine, MGMCRI gave a talk on “How to write results, tables, and figures,” followed by a discussion on Short Communication The day four started with the presentation of short communication by the PG Students. Prof. Geetha C, KGNC, gave a talk on the topic “Discussion”, followed by a group exercise. Prof.Annie Annal M, KGNC deliberated on “writing References”. Dr. Lalitha K, Director of Nursing Services, SBV, gave an enlightening talk on “Writing a full paper” and also clarified the queries raised by the students, followed by a group exercise. Prof. Senthil Coumarie, Dept of OBG, MGMCRI , presented on “How to reply to reviewers comments” with good examples.  On the fifth day, the students presented the full paper in front of the experts. Prof. A. Kripa Angeline ,Nursing superintendent, MGMCRI , demonstrated “How to submit the manuscript in the online journal” which helped the students to gain confidence in manuscript submission .The experts encouraged the students for their active participation.The online feedback report was collected on daily basis from each student based on the sessions. Most of the students reported that it was really a wonderful opportunity and also learned to convert dissertation into three publishable papers. The only request from the students was that they required more time for preparation. All the students received less than 10% plagiarism for their three publishable papers. The  five days programme came to an end at 12.00 noon on 06/04/19.
