In commemoration of the World Diabetes Day on 14th November 2014, the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, KGNC joined hands with the Department of General Medicine, MGMCRI and organized an awareness programme. The awareness programme started off with a rally by the faculty of general medicine and medical surgical nursing department, KGNC, CRRI, PG’s and UG students of KGNC from the main gate to MRD venue of MGMCRI Campus. The programme was inaugurated by the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nirmal Coumare, Dr. Jaisingh, HOD, General Medicine & Dr. Lakshmana Perumal, Residential Medical Officer, MGMCRI.
There was a health talk on diabetes, prevention and management by Dr. Lakshmana Perumal & Dr. Kalirathiname, Asso.Prof, General Medicine followed by a brief talk regarding the dietary modifications in diabetes by the nutritionist. It was followed by Human Puppet show by B.Sc(N) II year students on the theme “Prevention Of Type I Diabetes Among Young Adults” which gained the attention of the whole gathering and received a huge applause from the spectators. The programme continued with video programme on diabetes which revealed the pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, risk factors, treatment, management and complication of diabetes. Queries from the gathering were clarified by the speakers.
