The RRC Club of KGNC, Puducherry is encouraged to learn about safe and healthy lifestyles. The RRC promotes access to information on a healthy life and voluntary blood donation. They create and provide an opportunity for the zeal of volunteerism among youth to contribute towards the control and prevention of HIV&AIDS. The Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary on-campus intervention program for students. The programme organized by RRC addresses the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of the youths in the interrelated areas of Voluntary Blood Donation, HIV & AIDS, as demanded by their age, environment, and lifestyle.

OBJECTIVES

• To collaborate with Pondicherry AIDS control society to achieve the national goal.
• To decrease the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Pondicherry union territory through RRC.
• To create awareness on HIV/AIDS among the general public.
• To focus on creating awareness among high-risk groups regarding prevention of HIV/ AIDS.
• To conduct various awareness programmes among the rural public regarding VCTC & ICTC in the state.
• To motivate general public voluntary blood testing for HIV/AIDS.
• To improve the quality of life through structured education.
• To reduce new HIV infection among the youth.
• By raising their risk perception through proper education on sex and sexuality and HIV/AIDS prevention.
• By acquiring new skills in the areas of communication, self-assessment negotiation, social interaction and aspects related to care and support.
• To prepare the youth as peer educators and agents of behavior change.
• By developing their skills and capacity to assume leadership, build teams and catalyze collective action and strengthen them through social marketing.
• To create awareness on blood donation and organize camps.

ACTIVITIES

Red Ribbon Club programme with the objective of bringing about behavior change in young minds employs various strategies like:

• Celebrating Life Program
• Peer education and leadership training
• Cultural Competitions
• Interactions with positive people
• Awareness campaigns (Rallies, skits, Outreach activities)

FUNCTIONS

• Prepare and maintain a membership register for volunteers.
• Execute various activities and programme of RRC as per plan through volunteers and committee members.
• Conducting various activities like awareness classes / competition / seminars / rallies / skit/intro – inter-college competitions / debates / exhibition etc for creating awareness HIV / AIDS among general public.
• Focused awareness programme for augmenting voluntary blood donation and conducting blood donation camps.
• World AIDS day programme at the institution ( 1 st week of December).

RESOLUTIONS

• By developing new skills and capacity for the voluntary students by participating in various innovative activities through RRC.
• To create awareness of HIV / AIDS among adolescents and the general public.
