ADMISSION COMMITTEE

The Admission Committee of Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College in Puducherry is instrumental in efficiently managing the college admissions for all programs offered by the Institution viz B. Sc (N)/ PBBSc (N)/ M. Sc (N)/ NPCC. A robust social media presence on a variety of channels facilitates the admission process. In addition, as part of the Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K students gets admitted under the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).

The Admission committee is constituted at the start of each academic year to finalise admissions to the various programs offered by the college. The admission committee for the 2020 -2021 academic year is listed below, along with the functions for which it is formed.

Functions

  • To strengthen the admission process at KGNC.
  • To facilitate guidance and counselling procedures pertaining to admissions in the Institution.
  • To guide the admission team and oversee the counselling process in the admission department.
  • To help solve queries of parents and students interested in taking admission to the different programs offered in our Institution.
  • To prepare the final list of admitted students and submit to principal.
  • To upload the admitted students list through the portal at the end of each last date for counselling for students admitted under CENTAC category.
  • To check original documents of the students.
  • To keep personal file of the students with proper certificates.
  • Categorically sort out General, OBC, SC/ST and minority on percentage wise.

Eligibility Criteria for admission to various programs:

B.Sc Nursing

  • The minimum age for admission 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
  • The minimum education requirement – Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years study) (or) Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2),Pre-degree examination (10+2) (or)Any equivalent with 12 years schooling from recognized board or university with science (Physics/Chemistry/ Biology/English) with minimum of 45% marks.
  • 5% of marks is relaxed for SC/ST candidates.
  • Married candidates are also allowed.
  • The candidate shall be medically fit.

P.B.B.Sc Nursing

  • Passed the Higher Secondary or Senior Secondary or Intermediate or 10+2 or an equivalent examination recognized by the university for this purpose. Those who have done 10+1/PUC on or before 1986, will be eligible for admission.
  • The maximum education requirements shall be the passing of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.
  • Obtained a certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery registered as Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with the State Nursing Council.
  • Worked for a minimum period of one year as a nurse in a hospital/institution or a full-time Public Health Nurse for one year after obtaining the above-mentioned diploma and registered in a State Nursing Council.
  • The candidate should have undergone a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery in an institution which is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
  • A male nurse trained before the implementation of the new integrated course besides being registered a Nurse with the State Nursing Council shall produce evidence of training approved by Indian Nursing Council for a similar duration in lieu of Midwifery in any one of the following areas:
      1. T. Techniques
      2. Ophthalmic Nursing
      3. Leprosy Nursing
      4. TB Nursing
      5. Psychiatric Nursing
      6. Neurological and Neuro Surgical Nursing
      7. Community Health Nursing
      8. Cancer Nursing
      9. Orthopedic Nursing

M.Sc Nursing

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council.
  • The minimum education requirements shall be the passing of B.Sc. (Nursing)/Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • The candidate should have undergone B.Sc. (Nursing)/Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) in an institution which is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
  • Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. (Nursing).
  • Minimum one year of work experience prior or after Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing).
  • Candidate should be medically fit.
  • 5% relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given.
  • No age limit.

Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered midwife of any State Nursing Registration Council.
  • The Minimum education requirements shall be the passing of: B.Sc. Nursing /Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Must have scored not less than 55% aggregate marks in the B.Sc. program
  • Minimum one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing preferably in any critical care setting prior to enrolment.
  • The candidate should have undergone in B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing in INC recognized Institution.

Admission Process for Management Category:

The total number of seats sanctioned for B. Sc (N) is 100, out of which 50% admissions are Management category and 50% admissions are allotted to government. Students get admitted through government counselling i.e. CENTAC. The admission process normally starts from May to Oct every year, but sometimes gets extended which is intimated by the statutory councils.

Application form and Information Brochure can be obtained from the Admission Block, SBV Campus on all working days. The complete information about the candidate should be duly filled in the application form and signed by himself / herself and it should be submitted in the office within the time limit displayed on the notice board. The student should clearly state the course in which he or she wishes to enrol, as well as the specialisation (PG Candidates) to be pursued by the candidates. The candidate must note that only duly filled in application form will be accepted. The candidate has to appear for the entrance examination and a 50 % pass entitles him/ her for admission. The Principal reserves the right to cancel the admissions to those courses and subjects having less than criteria fixed by the University and the Nursing Council.
