STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION / STUDENT WELFARE COUNCIL

Introduction

The Student Nurses Association (SNA) is an organizational wing of Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI) flourished in all Schools & Colleges of Nursing throughout India. Student Nurses Association is the student based organization to mentor Nursing students preparing for initial licensure as a registered nurse and promote professional development.

Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College opened SNA unit for our nursing students & for their membership in the year 2005 with full enthusiasm and active participation. Our SNA unit started with the membership of 105 B.Sc. Nursing students.

Objectives

  • To help students uphold the dignity and ideals of the profession for which they are qualifying.
  • To promote a corporate spirit among students for common goal.
  • To furnish Nurses in training with advice in their courses of study leading up to professional qualification
  • To encourage leadership abilities and help students to gain a wide knowledge of the Nursing profession in its different branches and aspects.
  • To increase the students social contacts and general knowledge in order to help them take their place in the world after their training
  • To encourage both professional and recreational meetings games and sports.
  • To build writing and innovative skills of the students through exhibiting their talents in magazine titled “Sparklss”.
  • To encourage students to compete for prizes in many co curricular activities, intra & inter collegiate competitions, exhibition etc., and to give opportunities to the students to attend regional, state, national & international conferences.

Activities

  • A wide variety of activities are encouraged at all levels for the SNA members
  • Organization of General Body Meetings periodically and recording meeting minutes.
  • Conducting election every year to select SNA Office Bearers which starts with explaining their job description, nomination of the members followed by voting for the candidates by the SNA members, announcing the results.
  • Providing opportunities for the students for participation in various inter collegiate competitions, conference and workshops by providing them 50% fund.
  • Fund raising activities periodically.
  • Socio Cultural and Recreational activities & club activities conducted regularly.

General Body Meeting:

                  General Body Meeting is conducted every 3 months once under the effective leadership of SNA President, in which SNA executive members, Principal, Vice Principal, Faculty and all B.Sc. Nursing students actively participate. During the meeting, issues related to students are discussed and the issues are solved, then SNA accounts and its details are discussed, the reports of previous meetings are passed. Rules and regulations pertaining to the student’s discipline, Curriculum delivery and co-curricular activities are put forth from time to time in the GB meetings. Important days such as college day, Sports day, Culturals are announced as planned in GB meetings. Annually SNA election for the Executive members are conducted under the Leadership of Principal (SNA President) and the Office bearers are selected for the post of Vice president, Secretary, Treasurer, Asst. Treasurer, Cultural Secretary, Asst. Cultural Secretary, Educational Secretary, Asst. Educational Secretary, Sports Secretary and Asst. Sports Secretary.

Competitions:

           Students actively participate and win prizes in various intercollegiate competitions like Cultural, Sports, and Educational activities such as Poster competition, Essay Competition, Extempore and Conferences under the guidance of SNA President.

Student Welfare and Sponsorship:

           Sending students are sent for conferences with 50% sponsor towards registration fees and Intercollegiate cultural and Sports meet by providing half amount 50% from SNA fund towards their expenditure.

Fund

As SNA fund, monthly Rs.20 is collected from each B.Sc. Nursing student and the amount is utilized for various activity of the students.

    • Fund raising activities is periodically conducted to sustain the balance even after several sponsors.

Resolutions

  1. Provide positive reinforcement and enhancement to students’ morale, self-esteem, self-improvement and upward mobility.
  2. SNA fund has been raised from Rs.5to Rs.10 with consultation from all the students from the meeting 5.3.2010 by the convener.
  3. To promote vertical integration of students through house system. Here after all sports and cultural will be conducted as house system towards college day, not with the batch wise.
  4. To monitor regular health check up for all students.
  5. In case of any emergency the students will be taken for  treatment at free of cost.

Best Innovative Practice

  1. Providing opportunities to the students for participation in various workshop/conference by sponsoring them 50% fund for selected events.
  2. Students are also made to participate in competitions organised by NGO’s and other such organisations. Example: Students participated in “Dancing Divas”conducted by Puducherry Rotary Club and bagged many prizes.
  3. Student magazine Sparklss is published biannually in the months of January and June every year. First issue is been published on the College Day-Radiance held on March 2015.
  4. Students are encouraged to join in many innovative activities so that they can build up their self-confidence, hone their skills and bring their latent talent to the fore.
  5. Conducted annual sports& cultural competition.
  6. International Nurses Day Celebrated in our Institution wherein the students of UG & PG have participated in Various Competitions conducted in both English and Tamil on the theme Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare”   organized by Student Nurses Association from 08.05.2021 to 12.05.2021. 

Future Plan

  1. Our In house student body needs to be merged Trained Nurses Association& Indiaof TNAI.
  2. To host the intercollegiate literary competition between the nursing colleges in Puducherry.
  3. Every three months once HB investigation for all students.

General body meetings are regularly conducted, with all faculty and students.

Student Members role

  1. Create and deliver SNA events, programs and activities that promote awareness and critical engagement with global issues.
  2. Plan, implement and evaluate the activities.
  3. Students are encouraged to join in many innovative activities so that they can build up their self-confidence, hone their skills and bring their latent talent to the fore.
  4. Students would be given a chance to think out of their box and get creative ideas of their own with the help of a guide/facilitator.
  5. These activities are designed to meet the needs of the students and cover a broad/wide range of their abilities and talents.
  6. These activities help in developing the grasping power of the students and provide an opportunity to the students to work in teams and thus develop team spirit in them.

Periodicity of Meeting

SNA/ Students Welfare Council: 6 months once.

Committee for Parent Teacher Association: 6 months once.

Health Committee: 3 months once.

Literary Club: 6 months once.

Cultural Committee: 6 months once.

Sports Committee: 6 months once.
