Marvelous Medicine on Wheels

      Marvelous Medicine on Wheels” – a first of its kind program curated for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students bringing them face to face with giants in the field of medicine. This was organized by senior consultants of MGM Healthcare Malar, Chennai, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Pondicherry along with Learning General Surgery and Marvelous Medicine.            The program was supported by the Faculty and students of MGMCRI event orchestrated by the Dr. Patta Radhakrishna, Senior Gastroenterologist, MGM Healthcare Malar, Chennai and Dr. Vidyamani, Head, Dept of Anesthesiology, MGM Healthcare Malar, Chennai. Held on July 13th, 2024, at a bustling venue, this symposium gathered some of the brightest minds in medicine and surgery, creating an atmosphere brimming with anticipation and intellectual fervor. The event’s unique structure and diverse topics ensured that it was not just a series of lectures but an immersive experience.
       The core of the event was a series of 15-minute talks delivered by ten esteemed speakers, each a leader in their respective fields. The medical undergraduates from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute introduced these luminaries, adding a touch of youthful enthusiasm and ensuring a smooth flow of the program. This mentorship dynamic between the experienced professionals and the aspiring doctors highlighted the event’s educational and inspirational objectives.
        One of the most captivating talks was on Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. The speaker illuminated upon the audience how AI is revolutionizing healthcare through enhanced diagnostic tools, predictive analytics, and personalized treatment plans. They presented compelling case studies demonstrating AI’s potential to transform patient care, making it more accurate and efficient. The discussion left attendees with a sense of optimism about the future of medicine, where technology and human expertise collaborate seamlessly.           The session on Plastic Surgery was equally engaging, with the speaker delving into both the technical advancements and the ethical dilemmas faced by practitioners. They emphasized the dual role of plastic surgery in aesthetic enhancement and functional restoration, showcasing its profound impact on patients & lives. This talk was a reminder of the delicate balance between medical innovation and ethical responsibility.
       Palliative Care was another significant topic, focusing on the holistic approach to treating patients with serious illnesses. The speaker highlighted the importance of addressing not just the physical symptoms, but also the emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients. 
       This compassionate perspective was a poignant reminder of the human aspect of medical practice, advocating for a patient-centered approach that values quality of life.
The talk on Humanities with Medicine was particularly thought-provoking, arguing for the integration of humanities into medical education. The speaker proposed that understanding history, literature, and ethics enriches medical practice by fostering empathy and ethical decision-making. This interdisciplinary approach was lauded for its potential to produce well- rounded, compassionate physicians.
          The event concluded with a lively quiz, adding an element of fun and engagement. This interactive session tested the knowledge gained throughout the day, fostering a sense of camaraderie and reinforcing the key points discussed.
       Marvelous Medicine on Wheel & was not just an event but a movement towards a more integrated and humane approach to healthcare. The organisers meticulous organization and the stellar lineup of speakers created an enriching experience for all attendees. The event successfully showcased the multifaceted nature of medicine, emphasizing innovation, empathy, and the continuous quest for knowledge. It left a lasting impact, inspiring participants to push the boundaries of their practice and to approach their profession with renewed vigor and compassion.
    The inauguration of the event was done by Prof Nihar Ranjan Biswas, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SBV who was the Chief Guest. The inauguration was attended by Prof Srinivasan, Registrar, SBV, Prof Seetesh Ghose, Dean, MGMC RI, Ms Asha Suresh Babu, GM (Admin) and other Heads of all Departments and faculty and residents, interns and undergraduate students. During this event a new book named – “ Does the moon exist? “ – End of life dreams and Visions, Quantum Physics & Afterlife” written by Dr Abhijit Dam, Palliative Physician and Founder of The Koshish – the Hospice, Jharkhand was released by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
     There was a collage competition and Zine art competition on topics and students actively took part in the competition and prizes were given to them
