National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the First Education Minister of independent India, who served from 15th August 1947 till 2nd February 1958. National Education Day of India is celebrated on 11th November every year.
In this connection, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, announced a Chancellor’s Medal Intercollegiate Essay Competition for the students of health sciences from the colleges in and around Pondicherry, in commemoration of the National Education Day. The Theme for this Essay Competition was “How to reduce Environmental Health Risks in our Society”.
Many of the students from various colleges participated in the Essay Contest and had sent their original work. The essays were evaluated based on the theme, language, style and Punch line by a team of experts comprising of both internal as well as external experts.
The result for the competition was announced by Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth on 29/01/2015. In a glittering ceremony held at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, the winners were felicitated by the Prof.K.R.Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of the University with a medal, a certificate and a cash award.
First place was bagged by Ms. Fatima Zehra, II BDS student from Mahatma Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences with a cash award of Rs.3000. Second place was bagged by Dr. Sahaya Sona Thersa, I MD student of Shri Sathya Sai Medical College & Research Institute with a cash award of Rs.2000 and the Third place was bagged by Ms.Reena Radha Sri, III BDS student of Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences with a cash award of Rs.1000.
This was followed by the recognition of the Postgraduates for their research work done during their course period. A two day programme was organized by Scientific and Academic forum, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth were all the Postgraduates of MGMCRI were offered a platform to present their research work as posters, papers and podium presentations. At the end of the second day, the winners for each category were felicitated by Prof.K.R.Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Prof. N. Ananthakrishnan, Dean R & PG S and Prof.S. Krishnan, Dean of MGMCRI with trophies and certificates. The function was attended by faculty and students of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.
