The Department of Psychiatry, MGMCRI, participated in the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s Program on Commemoration of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, at Governor’s Residence, Puducherry, on 26th June 2019. Dr Swati Pawar (DMS, MGMCRI) delivered a speech on the rising problem of drug abuse among youth, the need for early identification, and the de-addiction services rendered by the Department of Psychiatry, MGMCRI. Dr S Karthick (Assistant Professor of Psychiatry) delivered an awareness talk on the risk factors for addiction among the youth, early identification and warning signs, and the treatment aspects of addiction. Mr Rajkumar (Clinical Psychologist) guided some of the patients, to talk about their treatment experience and how their improvement in personal, family, and social aspects. Among the audience were the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi, the officials of Governor Residence, students and teachers of various academic institutions of Pondicherry, and the public.
