The Department of Psychiatry, MGMCRI, conducted the one-day International Conference on Psychosomatic Medicine titled “Bridging the Mind-Body Divide: The Frontiers of Psychosomatic Medicine”, on July 19th 2019, in the University campus. Eminent speakers comprising of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Medical & Surgical Specialists from the National and International Arena, delivered the scientific sessions. Over 85 delegates comprising Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Medical & Surgical Specialists, Students of Psychology and Social Sciences, attended the Conference. The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chancellor and Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SBV. The program highlighted the High Prevalence Of Co-occurring Medical and Psychiatric Conditions, Common Physical Illnesses with Mental Health Issues, how they influence the individual’s illness outcome, how they can be identified early, how structured counselling (psychotherapy) can improve the overall quality of life, and various methods of managing such co-existing problems. The participants were able to interact with the speakers and clarify their queries. The event concluded with a feedback and valedictory session.
