World Health Organization initiated and declared June 14th , the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner as World Blood Donor Day in 2004. The day was created to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion, highlight critical contribution of voluntary unpaid donors, and support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary Blood donor programmes. This year World Blood Donor day slogan is Celebrating 20 years of giving: Thank you blood donors! This year Department of Transfusion Medicine (Blood Centre) celebrated World Blood Donor Day on June 14th 2024 at MRD block. The occasion was graced by Dr. Seethesh Ghose, honorable Dean MGMCR&I , Dr Swati Jayant Pawar ,Deputy Medical Superintendent MGMCR&I, Dr. Umadevi Professor, pathology, Dr. Kannan Vice principal student affairs, Dr.S Umadevi Vice principal curriculum, Dr.K Bhavani Professor Pathology, Mrs Kripa Angeline ,Nursing Superintendent Department of Nursing MGMCR&I, Dr. Basu Professor Pathology, Dr. Sabari Priya ,Associate professor , Department of transfusion Medicine , voluntary blood donors, Blood camp organizer, blood bank staff, students. Dr Ram Prabhu Postgraduate, Department of pathology gave a speech regarding Blood donation and its importance. This was followed by Donor felicitation with certificate and trophy. Prizes and gifts were distributed to all winners of Quiz , slogan and e-poster competition which took place during the National CME on” Updates in transfusion Medicine on 13-6-24 by online platform in commemoration of World Blood Donor Day. At the end of the session Vote of thanks
was given by Mr.saravannan senior Blood bank Technician.
