World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April of every year to mark the anniversary of WHO founding. Each year a theme is selected that highlights a priority area of public health and for this year the theme is “Food Safety” and the slogan for this year is “From farm to plate, make food safe”.
Food Safety being so important to everyone, the constituent colleges of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, MGMCRI, IGIDS and KGNC had taken this opportunity to create an awareness among the Puducherry people on food safety. The awareness rally and health camp had held at Gandhi Tidal, Beach Road, Puducherry on 7th April 2015 at 9:00 a.m.
The awareness rally was flagged by Mr. Gunasekaran, Superintend of Police (Traffic) and Deputy Director of MGMCRI, Dr. Ravichandran. Around 200 medical, dental and nursing students participated in this rally carrying placards emphasizing the importance of food safety for the public and roadside food stalls. Apart from this, Hepatitis B immunization was given to the public at the free medical camp organized by the institution. Dental and Medical check-up was also done by the health experts at the free medical camp. Around 250 men and women were benefited by this free Medical camp.
