Facilities

Lecture Hall

The Anatomy lecture hall is fully air-conditioned and equipped with LCD projector, whiteboard, and document camera to cater to the needs of 250 students.

Histology Laboratory

The practical laboratory for histology spaces and can accommodate about 125 students and each student is provided with an individual microscope and a set of slides. The lab is well equipped with Audio visual aids. To further facilitate learning an LCD projector and four LCD monitors are connected to the microscope for demonstration of the slides. Lab also houses numerous Histology charts that enable an excellent teaching-learning out-come. The lab is well equipped to carry out different staining procedures and to prepare the slides for teaching as well as research purpose.

Dissection Hall

A unique place where: “The Dead Teaches the Living”. The Dissection hall is spacious with proper ventilation and adequate light source to accommodate 250 students. The students are motivated to develop their skill in dissection so as to understand the intricacy of human body architecture. The students are also provided protected parts and the entire faculty interacts with students during the practical session. The students are evaluated periodically by conducting a formative assessment. In the dissection, hall bones are displayed in a unique way for easy access to the students during dissection schedule. Dissection hall is equipped with a camera and LCD projector for a live video demonstration of dissection classes. It also houses special instruments other than routine dissection sets, such as Electric saw, Hand drill, Electric drill, Hand saw, Band saw, Brain knife, Meat cutting machine, five storage tanks to hold 10 cadavers, 2 embalming machine, etc. It also has charts, blackboards, articulated skeleton, disarticulated sets, X-ray lobby, etc. We also have cold storage facilities to preserve the body. There are separate rooms for embalming and cadaver storage. The protected specimens and fetal specimens are stored separately in separate containers for students and faculty research purpose.

Museum

A well-organized comprehensive Anatomy museum is a unique feature of the department. Wet specimens are displayed as system-wise. Numerous charts, embryology models, skiagrams, MRI, CT scan are adequately displayed in separate sections. Cross-sectional models, 3D models, Human torso, articulated skeletons, disarticulated sets, foetal skull, Dismantled skull bones, X-ray viewing lobby and specimens of rare congenital foetal anomalies are added attractions of the museum.

Departmental Library

The departmental library has all the required latest edition Anatomy books as well as reference books related to the subjects for the need for students/postgraduates and faculty members. The library has also collections of ADAM software programs on Anatomy for self-study, improvement, and assessment, viz –

  • ADAM comprehensive Anatomy
  • ADAM Interactive Anatomy
  • ADAM practical Anatomy
  • ADAM 9 Month Miracle

Various state, National & International journals are also available.

Research Facilities

Research Room

The department has a well equipped Research lab with Trinocular microscope with microphotographic attachment. It also has a dissecting microscope, egg incubator, microtome, tissue embedding bath, hot air oven, digital weighing scale, pH meter, Radiofrequency meter, automatic knife sharpener etc. The Research laboratory provides an ideal environment for the faculty and students to carry out research activity.

Cytogenetic Laboratory

We have well established Cytogenetic lab to cater to the needs of the clinical department to diagnose Chromosomal disorders like ambiguous sex disorders, Turner’s syndrome, Down’s syndrome, etc. This facility could be extended to the other Medical institution/ General Hospital/Private Nursing Homes.  Faculties of clinical departments, – (Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, General Surgery, OBG. Dermatology, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology and Medicine) come along with their PG students to learn the technique of karyotyping and chromosomal analysis. The cytogenetic study has now become a very important diagnostic tool for the clinicians at MGMC&RI for their research work, paper presentation and paper publication at Regional, National & International levels.

  • A Cytogenetic study on Aborted fetuses using Umbilical Cord Blood cells.
  • A Cytogenetic study: Frequency of  Acrocentric Associations seen in smokers & non-smokers.
  • A Cytogenetic study: Frequency of  Acrocentric Associations seen in Repeated Abortions.
  • Histopathology and Cytogenetic study oral cancer patients.
  • The study on the Histopathology, Cytogenetic and hormonal variations on transgenders undergoing Sex reassignment surgery.
