BPT Global Immersion Program at AIMST University, Malaysia

A 15 member student delegation from the School of Physiotherapy, SBV had recently visited AIMST University, Kedah, Malaysia. The students who are pursuing their BPT program visited AIMST University for a fortnight from November 25th to December 10 th , 2023. The initiative, spearheaded by the Vice Chancellor of SBV, Prof Nihar Ranjan Biswas, proved to be an enriching and transformative experience for the students. The students were accompanied by Dr. Venkatesh K., Associate Professor, School of Physiotherapy, SBV. The program comprised a diverse range of activities that not only broadened the students’ academic horizons, but also provided them an insight into the global perspective on the essentials of physiotherapy practice. Following is an
overview of the key features of the program:
1. Scientific Sessions on Entrepreneurial Experiences: Students had the opportunity to gain insights into entrepreneurial aspects related to physiotherapy, fostering a spirit of innovation.
2. Seminar on Men and Women Sexual Health Physiotherapy: An informative session on the crucial aspects of physiotherapy, contributing to the students’ holistic understanding of the field.
3. EMG Analysis Workshop: Hands-on experience in Electromyography (EMG) analysis, enhancing their practical skills and knowledge in the field.
4. Workshop on TMJ Dysfunction: In-depth exploration of temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) dysfunction and perspectives in physiotherapy.
5. Medical College Tour: A visit to the medical college at AIMST University, providing students with an insight into medical education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
6. Posture Evaluation Assessment: Practical sessions on evaluating and addressing posture-related issues, a cardinal aspect of physiotherapy practice.
7. Aerobic Training: Physical activity sessions focusing on aerobic training, promoting the importance of fitness in physiotherapy.
8. Clinical Skill Lab Visit: A visit to the clinical skill lab, offering students a firsthand experience of clinical settings and advanced equipment.
9. Talent Show: A platform for students to showcase their diverse talents, fostering camaraderie and cultural exchange.
10. Athlete Private Clinic Visit: An opportunity to observe and learn from physiotherapy practices specific to athletes and sports medicine.
11. Workshop on CPR: Hands-on training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a critical skill for physiotherapists.
12. Malay Language Learning Session: Language immersion session, contributing to cultural understanding and effective communication.
13. Sports Events: Participation in sports activities, promoting physical well-being and team spirit.
14. Penang Hill Visit, Penang Island Visit, Local Shopping, Visit to Petronas Tower and Batu Caves and miscellaneous cultural and recreational activities.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and benefited immensely from these activities.
