The Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing Department of Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing organized a seven-day Breastfeeding Week celebration from 1st to 7th August 2024, aimed at creating awareness about breastfeeding among the public and enhancing student learning. The event was themed “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All”. On the first day, the program commenced at SSSMCRI. A puppet show by final year nursing students highlighted the theme, and pamphlets, charts, and flip cards were distributed to educate mothers on breastfeeding, accompanied by healthy snacks. The second day’s activities took place at Thirukalukundram PHC. A cooking expo showcased essential nutrients and appropriate dishes for lactating mothers, while pamphlets and educational materials were distributed.
On the third day, Dr. Manju Bala Dash, Professor, HOD (Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing) from Mother Theresa Post Graduate & Research Institute of Health Sciences Pondicherry, delivered a guest lecture, benefiting the third-year students. On the fourth day, final year students distributed pamphlets to the public to raise awareness. The fifth day featured a slogan writing competition among the second, third, and fourth-year students based on the theme. The sixth day included a collage-making competition, and the seventh day concluded with a scavenger hunt with questions on breastfeeding for the second, third, and fourth-year students. The week-long celebration effectively combined educational activities with creative engagements to promote breastfeeding awareness and support.
