International Day of Yoga 2016 celebrations at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth

Consequent to the decision of the United Nation on 11th December, 2014 with the support of 177 nations, the first International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June, 2015. Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India is the Nodal Agency to coordinate various activities for the celebration of International Yoga Day.

As per guidelines issued by UGC and Ministry of AYUSH, International Day of Yoga 2016 will be celebrated at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry in a grand manner from 19-21 June 2016 with various events. Public Awareness program will be held on 19 June for Senior Citizens of Pondicherry in Association with Help Age India and Pondicherry Senior Citizens Welfare Association. Common Yoga Protocol demonstrations and Yogasana competitions will be conducted in coordination with the Pondicherry Yogasana Association on 20 June while a National Seminar on “Introducing Yoga in Health Professions Education” will be held on 21 June with eminent experts participating from all over the country.

The Common Yoga Protocol for 2016 has been finalized by AYUSH in consultations with leading Yoga experts of India and is to be performed on June 21st 2016 all over India. Deputy Director of CYTER, Yogacharya Dr Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani is one of the experts on the IDY committee and CYTER has arranged for training to be given in this Common Yoga Protocol for interested faculty, staff and students daily from 4.30-5.30pm.

YOGA FEST will also be celebrated on 25-26 May 2016 to create awareness of Yoga amongst the university community and special lectures/lec-dems on Yoga as well as essay writing, poster making and cultural events are being organized for all members of the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth family.

The First Look Posters for YOGA FEST 2016 and INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA celebrations 2016 were released by Vice Chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth  Prof K R SETHURAMAN on Friday, 15 April in the SBV University Office. The event was graced by Prof N ANANTHAKRISHNAN (Dean PG & Allied Health Sciences), Prof AR SRINIVASAN (Registrar SBV) and Prof MADANMOHAN (Director CYTER). Sri SV Iyer, President Pondicherry Senior Citizens Welfare Association appreciated the efforts of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth in extending Yoga herapy services for the senior citizens of Pondicherry.
