International Week of the Deaf

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology has been organized various activities from 20th – 26th September commemorating the International Week of the Deaf 2021. The International Day of Sign Languages has been observed as part of the  International Week of the Deaf.

The International Day of Sign Languages is a unique opportunity to support and protect the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all deaf people and other sign language users. The 2021 theme, declared by the World Federation of the Deaf, is “We Sign For Human Rights,” highlighting how each of us – deaf and hearing people around the world – can work together hand in hand to promote the recognition of our right to use sign languages in all areas of life.

Here is a short video reinforcing the inclusive attitude to learn sign language for a better world because: “Hearing normally is not an excuse to learn sign language”.https://youtu.be/himAkeJveE0

The smooth conduction of all these activities would not have been possible without your kind cooperation and participation.  We would like to thank Dr. Balaji Rajagopalan, Professor and HOD, Department of Biochemistry, and Dr, Izhar Vinson, Assistant Professor, Department of General Surgery for sparing their valuable time to judge the story writing competition held on the topic ” What it is to be in a silent world?”  based on the theme of Hearing loss. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Chitra, Professor, and HOD, Department of Physiology, Dr. Saurabh Shrivastava, Professor Department of Community Medicine and Dr. Anusa, Professor, Departmant of Psychiatry for enthusiastically evaluating the colorful poster created by our students. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Department of General Medicine, Department of OG and Department of Pediatrics for lending their teaching hours to us for smooth conduction of our events. We would also like to thank the Department of Anaesthesiology, Dermatology, Radiology, and Psychiatry for permitting the students who were posted in clinics to participate in the Preliminary round of quiz, camp and poster competition.
