MGMCRI observed Autism Awareness Week

Autism is a growing global health issue and needs more awareness and attention today. Department of Psychiatry and Pediatrics of MGMCRI had planned a week-long programme from 27th March to 6th April 2018 as “Autism Awareness Week” inclusive of various activities.

As a part of outreach activity on 27th March 2018, a team had visited PSBB Millenium school, Anugraha township, Thavalakuppam for training primary school teachers. The awareness talk covered on the symptoms of autism that can be picked up by the teachers and simple interventions for children with autism that can be done at school.

Dr. Venkatesh, Consultant-in-charge, Child Guidance Clinic and Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, JIPMER delivered a Guest Talk on “How to recognize Autism?” at MGMCRI on April 2, 2018.

Mrs. Ruth Deborah, Assistant Professor, Department of Speech and Language Pathology, SRM Institute of medical sciences, Chennai delivered a Guest Talk on “Simple interventions to promote speech and communication in children” at MGMCRI on 6th April 2018.

“Red flags on Autism” – An awareness and training programme for nursing and administrative staff had held on 4th April 2018.
