OPTEVE`21

The Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences of MGMCRI took initiativetoorganizean International e – Conference on 12th March 2021for World Optometry Day Celebration .The theme of the conference was “Save Sight for Future”. The main objective of OPTEVE’21 was to provide enlightenment for all optometry students and eye care professionals and concept of authentic learning, and think of innovations that are based on the needs, motivation and the style of learning of the 21stcentury.

Pre-conference competitions:

OPTEVE’21conducted 5 online competitions like e-Poster, Meme, Drawing, Haiku in Tamil and Poetry Slam in English, and in our college MGMCRI optometry students participated in Eye model competition judged by our Ophthalmologists of MGMCRI.

Inaugural Session:

OPTEVE’21 International e- Conference was inaugurated on 12thMarch2021 with the welcome speech by Mr. Jayakumar A, Tutor in Optometry followed by the Inaugural speech from Prof. Srikanth K, HOD- Ophthalmology, and then Prof. Uma A.N, Principal of AHS gave eminent special speech, followed by the special address importance of optometrist in Eye clinic from Prof. KrithinathJha, Department of Ophthalmology.

The virtual e- conference inauguration got more beautiful with the speech on Importance of Optometry” by our guest Mrs. KallakuriSumasri, Lecturer / Teaching & Learning Mentor, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Singapore.

Conference session:

The first session was started by Mrs. KallakuriSumasri Lecturer / Teaching & Learning Mentor, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Singapore Polytechnic (SP), Singapore, a resource person in the topic on ““Recent Advances in Myopia Managements”.

The second session started with   Dr. Alex Joseph, Associate Professor, Division of Epidemiology, School of Public Health, SRM University, Chennai, on the topic of“Research – What, Why & How”.

The third session was by Mrs. Valarmathi, Research Scholar, Senior Lecturer, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai, on the topic of“Contemporary Optometric Practice Module”.

The fourth session was by Ms. Priya, Ocularist and Optometrist, Alumni of LVPIE, Hyderabad, gave a wonderful speech   onthe topic A Tour to Ocularistry.

The fifth session was taken by Dr. Revathy Mani, Research Assistant,School of Optometry And Vision Science, UNSW Sydney, Australia, was a resource person on the topic of“Role of Optometrists in TBI”.

The sixth session was taken by Mrs.  MaheshwariSrinivasan, funder, core idea innovation, Chennai, was a resource person on the topic of ““Optometry- A Path to Success”.

And the session ended with vote of thanks by Ms. Lavanya R, Tutor in optometry.The selected e-Poster, Meme, Drawing, Haiku in Tamil and Poetry Slam in English of the online competitions were displayed in-between the sessions. And at last online competitions winners list were announced.

OPTOMETRY III Year& Final year Students of MGMCRI won the prizes in following online competitions

e-POSTER: Ms. FowzeenaKhairun – 2nd prize& Ms. Sangeetha-3rd prize

DRAWING:   Ms. KaviyaSundari -3rd prize

POETRY SLAM IN ENGLISH: Ms. FowzeenaKhairun -1st prize

HAIKU IN TAMIL: Ms. Fathima Bee final year student- 3rd prize

Feedback session:

The event feedback survey was conducted after the session which reflected the overwhelming response from the eminent participants. Nearly about ninety percent of participants were very much satisfied with the lectures.

On the feedback of take-home, message participants expressed that the session will make them so expert in various specialty of optometry. The online competitions selected work displayed session was very much appreciated.

On the suggestion from feedback, we are planning for many upcoming sessions, like Glaucoma, Binocular Vision and research Protocol preparation, etc.

We are looking forward to the expected sessions and plan to conduct it as early as possible. We are blessed and happy to active participation from the all colleges’ which gave us the enthusiasm to design future programs.
