Project Pallandu is an unique venture from Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, a constituent institute of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry, established to attend to dental needs of the inmates of all old age homes at Puducherry. With the support of the Rotary Club of Puducherry, Aurocity, the Prosthodontics Department of the institute has been addressing the dental needs of the individuals from such homes on a periodic basis. On 24th September 2022, a team of doctors including Dr. Manoharan PS, Head of Department, along with other faculty members Dr Agathian and Dr Adarsh Eshwar visited Ayush – Home for the elderly at Krishna Nagar, Lawspet to assess the dental needs. A total of 30 elders, both males and females, were screened and follow up planned to provide comprehensive tertiary care in future at the institute premises free of cost. So far two homes were visited and followed up to provide complete dental care for elderly. It is also noteworthy to mention that this comprehensive holistic venture for Geriatrics with a plan for sustained care would be one of its kind in Puducherry. Soon the ‘Project Pallandu’ would aim to provide holistic care to the Geriatric Population at all old age homes of Puducherry in a phasic manner.
