CMTER celebrated world music day on 21.06.2018.
Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth celebrated World Music Day on 21 06 2018. The theme was “Music and Health”. Hon. Vice Chancellor Prof. Premeela Gurumurthy, Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University , Chennai was the Chief Guest. Hon. Vice Chancellor, Prof. KR Sethuraman, SBV presided over the event and delivered the presidential address on the topic “The Power of Music and Narratives”. The Chief Guest spoke on the topic “Music and Discourse as Therapy”. She elaborated on how traditional story telling practices like Harikatha is a form of mass communication inculcating knowledge of culture, fine arts, literary excellences, epics and philosophical concepts to THE mass audience to spread ethical and moral values to the listenerS. Prof. AR Srinivasan, Registrar, rendered a musical felicitation. Prof. Sumathy Sundar, Director, Center for Music Therapy Education and Research(CMTER) welcomed the gathering and spoke on the healing power of music and deliberated on music as a phenomenon and how music plays an integral part of human beings in every day life. The high light of the program was the Harikatha and Burrakatha on the Traditional music healing practices of Indian culture and the modern music therapy clinical practice performed by the students of CMTER. The Harikatha and the Burrakatha depicted the art of healing practices and the art and the science of modern music therapy evidence based practice.
