“Yoga is our cultural treasure and has a message of wellness for humanity” said Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry while addressing the SBV Yoga Mahotsav on 13th June 2022. This event was part of the countdown to the 8th edition of the International Day of Yoga celebrated with the theme “Yoga for Humanity ” as announced by our Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi in his recent “Maan Ki Baat’ address.
She said that the theme for this year’s IDY appropriately portrays how during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, Yoga served the humanity in alleviating the sufferings and in the emerging post-covid geo-political scenario too, it will unite people through compassion, kindness, foster a sense of unity world over.
“The practice of Yoga as a unified whole helps the individual shift from an ‘I”-centric approach to a “we”-centric approach. “Even illness becomes wellness when the ‘I’ is replaced with the ‘We’!” she concluded.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India has launched the Yoga Mahotsav 2022, a 100-day countdown for the 8th International Day of Yoga. The 100-day campaign is being organized in 100 cities through 100 organizations till June 21 across the globe. This includes Yoga programs, yoga demonstrations, workshops, seminars across the globe.
Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, one of India’s top 100 universities has been selected to organize the Yoga Mahotsav at Pondicherry on 13th June 2022 in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi.
A mass demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol was held from 6.30AM at The Gandhi Tidal on the Pondicherry Promenade Beachfront. More than 300 students of the university participated as directed by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and UGC.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the university Prof SC Parija presided over the event that was attended by functionaries of the university, faculty, staff and students as well as a large number of the general public.
The university is also hosting a weeklong “International Yoga Therapy Convention” from 13-21 June 2022 featuring 20 eminent speakers from around the globe.
The International Yoga Therapy Convention was inaugurated by Dr IV Basavaraddi, Director MDNIY who delivered the Inaugural Address while the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SBV Prof SC Parija delivered the Yoga Day Address. Eminent International Yoga Experts such as Prof BR Sharma, VC of Sri Sri University, Odisha and Yogacharya S Sridharan, Senior Mentor of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai graced the occasion.
The event was organized by the CYTER of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth as per the guidelines issued by UGC and Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.
