The SSSCON Football Team has made history by clinching the Gold Medal in the five-a-side football category and the Silver Medal in the seven-a-side category at the prestigious State-Level Football and Futsal Tournament, held at Omandurar Medical College, Chennai, on 27th October 2024.
The journey to victory in the five-a-side category was nothing short of spectacular. The team started strong by defeating Kilpauk Medical College 5-1 in the first round and then overcame Tuticorin Medical College with a 2-1 win in the second round. In the third round, they triumphed 2-0 over Madras Medical College, one of the top medical college teams in Tamil Nadu. The team continued their dominant performance, beating Tuticorin Medical College 2-0 in the semi-finals. The final match was a thrilling penalty shoot-out against Kilpauk Medical College, which saw the SSSCON Football Team emerge victorious, securing the Gold Medal.
In the seven-a-side category, the team’s success continued as they defeated Ramanathapuram Medical College 1-0 in the first match and then triumphed over Tuticorin Medical College 2-0 in the second round. In a historic moment, they defeated Stanley Medical College, the premier football team of medical colleges, 2-1 in the third round. Their journey to the final culminated in a well-earned Silver Medal after a 1-0 victory over Kilpauk Medical College in the semi-finals.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV) University, Chennai, extends heartfelt congratulations to the SSSCON Football Team for their outstanding achievements. Each member of the team has made the university proud, and their hard work and dedication have been recognized across the state.
