United Nations World Drowning Prevention Day

There was a function in the ground floor lecture hall of the college block of SSSMCRI, which was attended by Chief Guest Mr. Jagadesswaran. K, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahabalipuram. The event began with the arrival of dignitaries, faculties, and MBBS & Nursing students with a welcome address delivered by Prof (Dr.) Dipayan Deb Barman, HOD of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology. Dr. Dipayan Deb Barman also outlined the Importance of world drowning prevention day observance and the objectives of the function.

Prof. (Dr.) Udit. B. Das, Dean of SSSMCRI delivered a special address to the participants on his own professional experience while handling victims of drowning and near drowning.

Mr. K. Jagadeeshwaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahabalipuram, delivered a talk on the roles and services offered by law enforcing agencies to prevent drowning deaths on the seashore. He also stressed only the responsibilities of citizens in minimizing the Incidence of drowning deaths in the country

Dr. Dipayan Deb Barman delivered a talk on near drowning, its pathophysiology, and complications, and how life-saving resuscitative techniques can be useful for victims of near drowning.

As part of the event, a hands-on demonstration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation using mannequins was done by Dr. Pragadeesh Raja, assistant professor in the department of Community Medicine, SSSMCRI.

The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. R. Ganesh, Associate Professor of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology of SSSMCRI.
