VISIT OF THE CONSUL GENERAL OF FRANCE IN PONDICHERRY & CHENNAI TO SBV

The Consul General of France in Pondicherry and Chennai, Ms. Lise Talbot Barre visited Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Deemed to be University, Pondicherry. The Consul General was accompanied by Ms. Blandine Ripert, Directress, French Institute of Pondicherry and Dr. Sathish Nallam, President, Alliance Francaise de Pondichery.
The visit was primarily intended to explore the myriad possibilities in academics, research, student exchange and fostering cross cultural experiences. Expressing happiness at the manner in which Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth has been accounting itself in different spheres especially in recent years augurs well for mutual development in the Indo – French pursuits. Adding further, she elaborated the role played by the Consulate in enabling developmental initiatives aimed at translating need and value based ideas into actual practice. She particularly mentioned a few prospective areas of collaboration aimed at the exchange of students and faculty in diverse areas that include health sciences, humanities and even linguistics.
Ms. Blandine Ripert. Directress, French Institute of Pondicherry who was an important part of the delegation cited the key areas that were enumerated in the MoU signed between French Institute of Pondicherry and Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. Particular mention must be made of the areas of Focus as indicated in the MoU, namely epidemiological studies by incorporating geospatial network as lined to communicable and the non-communicable diseases prevalent in the region. Adding further, she exuded confidence in portraying the abilities of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth in the realms of medicinal garden and deciphering the Siddha edifice ingrained in palm leaf manuscripts.
Dr. Satish Nallam, President, Alliance Francaise de Pondichery expressed satisfaction at the initiative jointly undertaken by Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth and Alliance Francaise in conducting French Classes for the benefit of aspiring professionals in healthcare.
Prof. Nihar Ranjan Biswas, Vice Chancellor expressed hope that the basic French classes will be integrated into the regular curriculum to the extent possible. He also added that SBV will sincerely collaborate with French Consulate, French Institute of Pondicherry and alliance Francaise de Pondichery in the frontiers of academics and cross culture.
On behalf of the Chancellor, Shri. M.K. Rajagopalan, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Nihar Ranjan Biswas presented the Consul General of France with a monetary contribution towards societal obligation under Institute Social Responsibility. A similar gesture was accorded to President of Alliance Francaise de Pondichery.
The delegation visited few facilities of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth including the Institute of Salutogenesis and Complementary Medicine encompassing Yoga and music Therapy. The delegation expressed its appreciation at the unique services.
Later at a formal ceremony, the Consul General of France inaugurated the French Classes for the students of Allied Health Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth.
