World Breastfeeding Week Celebration

Sri Sathya Sai College of Nursing in association with SSSMCRI observed ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ on 6th August 2022 on the theme “Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support”. The program was held on 6th August 2022 at 10:00 a.m. on the hospital premises, SSSMCR. Dr. Rajakumar Gangadharan MD., DCH HOD Department of Paediatric Medicine SSSMCRI formally welcomed all the dignitaries present on the dais and participants. To bring awareness to the public, Poster Exhibitions, & Mass Health Education on Breastfeeding were done in OPD Complex. Posters were displayed from Nursing college with the emphasis on the importance of breastfeeding, breastfeeding technique, and its advantages to mother, baby, and society. A skit on – Breastfeeding and its importance was performed by B.Sc Nursing II Year Students. It was well appreciated by the audience. A mass education program using visual aids was conducted by a B.Sc Nursing III year student of the College of nursing. Various aspects on breast feeding the babies, physiology of lactation, how breast milk works, latching Vs. bonding, positions, care of breast before and after the feed, contents of breast milk, expressing breast milk, difficulties encountered and its treatment, nutrition for mother, and advantages of breastfeeding to the mother and baby were taught to the public. Practical aspects of breastfeeding were informed by the staff nurses of SSSMCRI. The program had a voracious response from the audience. The events were organized by the faculty: Mrs. Abilasha and Mrs. Rajasri SSSCON. This whole event was coordinated & guided by Prof. Dr. Helen Shaji JC Principal, SSSCON.
