World Cancer Day was commemorated by Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing and an Awareness and Screening Program was organized at Government General Hospital, Thiruporur on 04.02.2022. The Theme of this World Cancer Day is “Close the Care Gap”. The aim of the program was to create awareness among the public about prevention, early detection, and management of cancer. The program was organized by Dr.Helen Shaji J.C. Principal Shri Sathya Sai College of Nursing, the event was coordinated by Dr.Golda Sahaya Rani, Professor, and Mr.Dinesh M, Nursing Tutor. The program started at 10.30 am with a Heath talk that was given by Ms.Priya, Ms.Thilagavathy, Ms.Kalyani, Ms.Bhavani and Ms.Emmimal from III year BSc (Nursing), Shri Sathya Sai College Of Nursing, each explaining the various aspects of Cancer, like early detection, symptoms, causes and management. Mr.Dinesh M, Nursing Tutor, summarized the health talk and highlighted on the causes of cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment. Followed by the health talk there was a Screening Program conducted by III year BSc Nursing students using a screening questionnaire in English and Tamil. About 90 patients attended the heath talk and screening, and the program ended at 12.30 pm.
