E - LEARNING COMMITTEE
BACKGROUND OF THE COMMITTEE
In the early 90s some Luther Seminary (St. Paul) faculty members were struggling to retain students who didn’t have the funds or because of family obligations, couldn’t relocate to attend seminary.
Tom Walker knew there had to be some kind of tool that would enable people to communicate with each other without being in the same place at the same time Learning Management System (LMS) also sometimes known as Course Management System (CMS) have come a long way since those early days.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COMMITTEE
1. To increase access to learning opportunities/ increase flexibility for students
2. To enhance the general quality of teaching/learning
3. To develop the skills and competencies needed in the 21 st century and in particular
4. To ensure that Learners have the digital literacy skills required in their discipline profession or career
5. To promote De-institutionalized learning/ to enable self-managed learning.
FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE
1. The Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College developed e-learning modules as a part of learning management system which are learner’s centered and focused on usability.
2. It provide an interactive, dynamic and intuitive way of improving the student’s knowledge of the given subject, from the basic concepts to a certain degree of specialization on specific topic heutagogy concept of learning using e-learning module are accepted by the students.
3. They are designed to make the learner an active player in the learning process for learning management system Ganesha’s Canvas (elearn.sbvu.ac.in) is used for e-learning by the students and teachers for
teaching, learning and evaluation.
SPECIFICITY OF THE COMMITTEE
Managing users, courses, roles, instructors and generating reports This includes uploading courses, assigning roles, recommending courses and evaluation
- Messaging and notifications by learners
It helps to send reminders and notifications to students on upcoming courses and tests. - Assessments that can handle the student
The use of assessment uploaded which can serve as a follow up to classroom training programs. Can also have diagnostic assessments to assess the level of knowledge of students on the subject - Instructor-led Course Management
This functionality is time-saving and efficient, since it has a single, centralized tracking system. For this reason it is preferred - Tracking and Reporting
It provides a wide range of standard and custom summaries and detailed reports, so that the students may view their average test scores, final test scores, single user reports, company log-In record, summary of overall tests taken, etc.
